B I O G R A P H Y

______ Shonaox is a proud and distinguished dragon. She doesn't often say much but she won't put up with trouble. Most of the clan used to fear her, but they've gotten used to her over the years and trust her completely. She isn't close to many members of the clan, mostly just Estelek and Tamanous, but she's civil towards almost everyone and has a soft spot for several clanmates that she's a bit closer to. The only thing that seems to unnerve her is Valmera, but she's slowly warming up to her due to Tamanous' friendship with both of them. She seems to not be affectionate towards her mate, Estelek, but when left alone both of them lower their barriers and seem to become completely different dragons.

______ Shonaox rarely ventures out of her lair during the day, but at night she hunts and looks for threats. She is very strong and little can get past her if she decides to keep it out of the clan's territory. Estelek sometimes accompanies her on outings, scavenging whatever he can along the way. He usually takes his own separate trips, but both of them like when he tags along.

______ The strangest thing about Shonaox is the metal grates that can be found on her body, dark gray and nearly impossible to see unless seen in the light or pointed out. She can light flames in these grates at will, even enough to burn enemies who dare to get into melee range. She often has them burning gently, just enough to make shadows and orange reflections play off of her scales and make her shape uncertain.

______ Shonaox has many offspring outside of the clan, some of which she is still in contact with. In the Southern Icefield, in a clan known as Avalon, her daughters Hethmalas, Rokdune, and Slatifstun, as well as her great-granddaughter Nethmal, are some of the key protectors and keep the clan safe. Although she doesn't usually show it, Shonaox is immensely proud of her family and the positions they hold, occasionally writing lengthy letters to them with occasional additions from Estelek. While Hethmalas (and, in a way, Nethmal, as she is Hethmalas' granddaughter) are descended from Shonaox's previous mate, Calvarus, Rokdune and Slatifstun are from Estelek.

______ Shonaox came to the clan early on, appearing in the dead of night and announcing that she would like to join the clan. She offered to be one of their first dedicated guards and to hunt when she could and, seeing her strength and power, Klaeod accepted her immediately. She has remained one of the strongest fighters in the clan, but doesn't patrol as often as she used to, preferring to take flights over the territory at night and hunt or simply fly with her mate.

______ It used to be that, when asked about her Charge, Shonaox would only snarl and snap in response. She refused to speak of it, or of her Search, and the clan quickly learned to leave the matter be. Rumors started, rumors saying that she had failed, her charge had been killed or destroyed, and it was a touchy subject. But it didn't seem right, others protested, as Shonaox is such a proud dragon, carrying herself with dignity and grace that failed Guardians simply can't muster. Her charge must be something strange or embarrassing, they went on, something that would ruin her image.

______ Shonaox's charge was none of those things. What she held inside was something quite different- the knowledge that she had no charge. She had never felt compelled to Search, and while she left her clan as soon as she was an adult, she never found anything that she considered worthy. She despaired, feeling as if she had failed, like her charge had been killed or destroyed before she had even reached adulthood. Not able to stand how the Guardians in her homeland of the Tangled Wood looked at her, she left, seeking out somewhere where her past and identity would not be questioned. She was drawn to the Shifting Expanse, a land where all that mattered was how much you could do and not who you were. She found a small clan led by an irritable but accepting Mirror and made herself at home.

______ Things changed one day. Shonaox felt an itch in her scales, an itch drawing her away from the Shifting Expanse. Having long stopped thinking about finding a charge, she dismissed it as nothing and continued her life as normal. It grew stronger, though, stronger and stronger until a strange nocturne escorted by a dragon sent by the Stormcatcher himself appeared to the clan. The nocturne was to be looked after, and as Shonaox looked him over, she felt repulsed. He was drooling what looked to be tar, and his scales seemed to secrete the stuff. He was darker than even her, with odd purple runes and eyes that burned with the fires of the Ashfall Waste. He was sticky, gooey, oozing, disgusting...

Hers.

______ She knew immediately upon seeing him that he was to be her charge, and with a sigh of immense relief and slight resignation, she introduced herself- politely, gracefully, hiding the excitement bubbling within- and then went back to her cave, releasing her emotions into a pounce and a shout, almost squashing her mate with the bouncing of her body and the shouting of her joy. Since then, she has protected Tamanous with her life, becoming one of his few friends and snarling at anyone that calls him a monster or an abomination. Oddly enough, the tar he secretes does not stick to her unusually slick scales, only dulling her slightly upon contact, something that displeases her but is easy to fix with a quick bath.
