First-time visitors to the clan are surprised by how downright normal he acts: the hermit in the woods, sipping tea in the afternoon while sitting on his back porch, browsing the latest biological research texts. Since meeting Sylphe, their porch has been gradually decorated with wind chimes, and she often joins him for his evening ritual and to watch the sunset.

Originally negotiated in a contract to find a mate for one of the dragons in heavenlyEarth's clan, he was discarded in favor of a rarer breed; as a Skydancer, he was not deemed a worthy to become the mate of a Coatl. (He looks longingly in the direction of Paprika and Cayenne's burgeoning romance). While enthralled by the tale of Homestuck, he briefly considered taking the name "English," after the main antagonist, but decided the name would not fit as he is at heart a peaceful, nature-loving dragon. The nickname stuck, however, as he refused to take an official name for many years.

A calm, collected, and quiet individual, Sylvan provides the perfect counterpart to Radagast's capricious and abrasive nature. Multiple dragons have assumed that the two of them are a couple, though this has never been confirmed. (Radagast would certainly be interested, but Sylvan has never felt that sort of attraction). He is responsible for maintaining the balance with the beasts on the island, and is capable of communicated with nearly any animal on this earth. Despite his pacifist tendencies, Sylvan also raises and trains the Double-Tailed Warcats that protect the clan borders, although Lyra is responsible for their deployment.

In the morning, he wakes, brews himself a cup of tea, and watches the sunrise from his front porch. He then goes to check on his bees, packs himself a nice lunch, and then spends the next several hours patrolling the Island's waterways. While a skilled and efficient flier, there is much of the plant and animal life that can be missed from the sky. Maintaining the natural forests requires up-close and personal observation. It is said that Sylvan patrols the borders between the familiar and the Fae - where the lands are to wild to be converted to agriculture, but the latent magic of Sorneith slumbers peacefully. Regardless, his daily chores can almost be described as leisurely. As the clan (and their lair) has grown and changed, Sylvan's tasks have changed with them. While he negotiated the original contract with the Longnecks to start a contingent of Warcats to protect the island. Their command and deployment has since been handed over to Lyra, the red queen, though he still has a hand in rearing the cubs and training the adolescents. Recently, Eris has joined him on trips to monitor the island's animal life.

The Skydancer was smitten with Sylphe at first glance, but was to shy to approach her for the longest time. It started with afternoon tea, led to mutual bee keeping, hikes thru the forest, flights above the island, and eventually transformed into love. The two moved in together, and had a lovely marriage ceremony at the end of summer (an arch laced with flowers set up at the edge of the forest, tall grass and benches, white blossoms enchanted to float by on the breeze) overseen by Vulcan and Geneva.

It was when Raederle first glimpsed the as-of-then unnamed green Skydancer and his seafoam Spiral companion, speaking together far off in the sunlight, that she was struck with inspiration and divined his name. Sylvan - the perfect counterpart to Sylphe. It was only when the two dragons had reached a stable and hopeful stage in their relationship that the green Skydancer agreed to take the name. It was in same ceremony that the two dragons pledged a lifetime of devotion together, that Sylvan was gifted with his new name.
