Biography

Hickory was born into a small wind clan. Ever since he was young, his biggest dream was to go off and explore the world, which was only strengthened as time went on. He wasn't treated very fairly by his family. Eventually, he ran away from home after a particularly bad shouting-match with his parents, hoping to start his quest of exploring the world. Except, there were more dangers to this new lifestyle than he had expected. The night before he left he prayed to the Windsinger for help in his travels. That night, he had a very strange dream. In it, the Windsinger came to him and offered him the help he so desperately wanted: the gift of immortality. But, he warned him, if he accepted the offer, he would never be able to join another clan. Hickory, wanting nothing more than to spend his life traveling as a nomad, took it in a heartbeat, not realizing that this would have big consequences. The first couple of months, he believed it was nothing more than a weird dream, but he soon realized the whole thing was real. He was ecstatic, and spent years enjoying his life and figuring out how his power worked.
Though after years of traveling, he eventually got a bit tired of it. He had seen almost all there was to see and had grown wiser, less energetic and less naive. But most of all, he missed having friends and family. So, he set out to find a clan to join, the Windsinger's warning almost forgotten. He soon found a lovely clan who welcomed him with open arms, and everything was perfect. Until, a few weeks after officially joining this clan, a massive group of beastclans attacked the camp! Most of his new clanmates were murdered, and the ones that did survive put the blame of the attack on Hickory, because after all, he was the suspicious newcomer. Feeling betrayed and a bit traumatised, it took him a while to try again. The Windsinger's warning crept into the back of his mind, but surely, it could be nothing more than a coincidence! As time passed, he once again sought a clan to join, but just like last time, a horrible disaster broke out and he was exiled. He grew panicked, and paranoid. He liked the company of others, but didn't want anyone to get hurt because of him. He felt guilty all the time, and avoided even the smallest groups of dragons like the plague, out of fear he would cause them horrible things. And it was not only that, rumours started about a mysterious Spiral that had apparently gotten the trust of and betrayed multiple clans, and sometimes he'd be recognised, only to be chased off from the smallest plazas.
He spent years in this paranoid state, hiding in the woods and dangerous creatures' territory, until he met a fellow traveler. She helped him out of his constant fear and gave him hope. He kept his immortality secret but told her that he did secretly wanted to join a clan. She led him to her own clan, which just so happened to be his birth clan! There, he hesitantly stayed, even made up with his parents and siblings. He had been staying there for weeks and nothing bad had happened. In his naivety, he started to feel hopeful, that maybe he would finally be able to live a fairly normal life, warning signals in the back of his mind ignored. But eventually, something did happen. Almost all of his new and former clanmates died, only a few of them surviving, including the other Spiral he had met on his travels. He was wracked with guilt, and told her his secret. She said she didn't blame him for what happened, but he just couldn't stay with the remnants of his old clan. That night, he left without a word, feeling horrible not not being able to cry. He accepted his life, coming at peace with the fact that he would never be able to have another family.
Now, he still wanders, nothing but a myth to most who heard of him. He keeps to the shadows, eternally careful and tactful about where to go and when to show himself. He has gotten over his paranoia, sometimes going into crowded markets to get supplies, but rarely casually chats with anyone, keeping his identity safe. He will always try to help others, by warning them of certain dangers in the woods or distracting the creatures that live in it to keep others out of harms way.
