Krotu started the hotel business when he was still a young dragon looking for a way to get himself noticed. He had no idea what to do and was often reckless, exploring every cave and cavern he came across. One day at the shoals he found a large expanse of caverns inside the cliffs that led up to the Sunbeam Ruins. It was along the shoals where many dragons loved to soak, so he started living in the cavern and called it home.

Many passing dragons asked to stay in the cavern with him to rest and continue travels the next day. After a couple months and hundreds of dragons passing by, Krotu decided to tidy the place up and open the caverns as the Tidal Hotel.

He met Mromu soon after the start of the business. As a merchant, she could see that he was a beginner at running a business and handling finances, so she stayed to help out. Eventually, they got together and had three kids: Shikrotu, Nimartu, and Vyne. Unfortunately, Vyne was one of few Guardians not born with gills and followed her sisters into the water, only to perish. The hotel closed down for a few weeks to mourn the loss.
