Biography
Rabia hated the word ‘Ghoul.’ It meant trouble. It wasn’t the first time someone confused her with one, but it certainly was the worst. Some young, feisty (and incredibly stupid) dragons had attacked her and left her to die during her travel to the Light territory. She’d spent most of her life in the Scarred Wasteland, but after several attacks she’d decided to move to some place safer. But clearly it didn’t work.
She’d managed to go a little farther, but the headache was getting more intense and her vision was blurred. Suddenly, she lost her balance and fell. She hit her head and almost blacked out.
‘Be careful,’ someone said. She lifted her head and saw a Skydancer, looking at her from the distance. ‘What happened?’
‘Some idiots just thought I was Ghoul, that’s what happened,’ she said. Ugh, her head was killing her.
‘Yea, they don’t really like us here.’
Rabia looked at the dragon again and she noticed the thylacine markings on his body. She could also smell him now – he reeked of plague and looked like he could die any minute. Only his eyes seemed alive and they were observing Rabia’s every move. The Skydancer must have noticed her slight disgust and fear, as he smiled and said:
‘I’m not going to hurt you, you know. Though you’re lucky that for a second I thought you were like me, otherwise I might not have been so kind.’
He took a step back like he wanted to leave, but hesitated for a second and looked at her one more time.
’Come with me,’ he said. ‘If my clan was able to accept me, they certainly won’t have any difficulty accepting you.’
’I thought you said they don’t really like Ghouls here.’
Skydancer smiled again.
’Most clans don’t understand, who Ghouls really are. Most dragons reject us as they think we are unworthy children rejected by the Plaguebringer herself. But what do you see when you look at me? Plague and rot in its core. My entire existence is a sign of her power, an image of her ruthlessness. They hate and hunt us down, because they fear us, which mean they fear her. We spread disease and decay like no other creature. They hate and hunt us down, because they do not understand.’
That was a little over the top speech, thought Rabia. But she was weak and in desperate need of shelter. If taking a break meant she had to follow some Ghoul, then so be it.
