Biography
Day 1
New clan, new journal. Where to begin?
I've finally found a place to settle, after harsh travel. These dragons, the Icarus Ridge, are friendly enough; I was mostly hoping to find a tutor to teach me and then I could go on my way, however asking if they had a local dancer warranted... uneasy glances. Had something happened previously?
Day 4
I've learned not to mention magic dancing around some dragons, though others don't seem to have a problem with it. Everyone is hospitable despite it, and I've been loaned my own personal quarters. The previous occupant is long gone, however I can smell the soft scent of a Skydancer. I wonder where they went; but it's not my business to pry.
Day 8
I've noticed something peculiar. There are areas where I can smell smoke, but there are no candles or lanterns or anything that could be burnt. It follows me for a while before disappearing, and I can't help but feel a sort of sadness whenever it appears. It's... unsettling.
I did try to casually bring it up in conversation, though the other Skydancer- Kisai, if I remember correctly? -seemed to notice my antennae twitching too much and softly explained that not all dragons who left this clan via death had their spirits completely leave the lair. Some of which moved locations along with them during the last migration.
Just my luck I chose a haunted clan. They don't seem aggressive, though.
Day 11
I've learned of the existence of a dragon simply nicknamed 'Tainted'. I had been wandering- I still get lost in these great halls -when I stumbled into a sickly, tatter-winged Pearlcatcher. I had sworn they were supposed to be bigger than my kind, but the poor thing was... tiny. Her reaction to seeing me wasn't unexpected, now that I think back on it; the little lady froze up and stared, before scrabbling down the hallway and fleeing into a door I was pretty sure I never saw before. The emotion I could catch from her was... grief, before it was drowned out by a wave of worry as the smoke scent passed.
I asked about the dragon, worried that she might be an enemy- just in case, she hadn't been a part of the introductions -and was explained that she lives away from the main clan. There had been an incident a long time ago that drove her to near-madness, reducing her back to the timid and paranoid dragon she had been before she had joined the clan. I hadn't known she was even there.
There are stories here that I haven't even begun to know.
Day 12
I brought up the smoke again, to a different dragon. They paused, wondering if it was them, and ended up in a long-winded argument about magic and having to suppress it and that indirectly bringing it up was more of an insult than explaining to them that their magic was leaking.
I finally managed to explain that it wasn't them.
And then they shrugged and told me they had no idea.
How helpful.
