Thanatos lead a rather boring, normal life compared to some dragons. Like most hatchlings, he was cared for by his parents and grew up alongside the other siblings in his nest. Being the middle hatchling of his nest, he was also often left to his own devices. The imperial grew up in the Fire flight but knew little about their mining or forging lifestyle, as he was much too young to help with that sort of work. As he grew bigger he explored the clan he'd hatched in and began to take an interest in scholarly things. His brothers didn't see the appeal and began their own paths towards becoming blacksmiths and soldiers for the Flamecaller.



By the time Thanatos was a young dragon, he was already well versed in poetry and had begun to take an interest in fighting skills. His tastes in fighting were rather refined and dignified, as he liked the idea of battles being similar to a formal dance. He began his training elsewhere after leaving his birth clan and was rather quick to pick up the battle moves he was taught. Still, each session challenged not only his strength but his intellect as well. A warrior had to strong while still being quick on his feet, nimble in the air, and capable of outwitting his opponent. Given his size, and the fact he was still growing at the time, it wasn't always easy.



In his spare time he began to play a game called chess to help pass the time and keep his mind sharp. Admittedly, he found the game fun despite many others seeing it as boring or too challenging to try. Thanatos also took it upon himself to read about former warriors who'd made history with their heroics in battle or ferocity against their enemies. It all seemed rather messy, always seeking out or being ready to fight. It was then that he decided he specifically would rather serve as a guard. The role felt much more to his liking, especially given it was unlikely he'd constantly have to spill blood.



After his training was complete, he set off again in search of a clan that could use his services. During his traveling through Plague, he ran into a pearlcatcher named Kami. She was a scavenger in the area and offered to let him stay with her to rest for a few days. Tired from his travels, he agreed. Thanatos ended up staying longer than expected after getting to know Kami better and the two began traveling together through Plague.



It was this wandering that brought them to the Order of Bone within what would eventually be known as the Empire of Death. He was hired as a member of the royal guard for that sub-clan and was placed alongside two others in service as Lucifi's personal guard. Thanatos stood out oddly from the other two with his more dapper, fashionable look and sophisticated personality but it didn't cause much of an issue when it came to the job. Kami, who'd since become his mate, also joined him in the clan and settled down as a scavenger for them. Plague had many rumors about the dragons being savages or disease-ridden warriors but the imperial decided that- if that was true- his home was a grand exception.
