Biography

origin: Sa'ara'dyr is an OC meant to be my player character for a Planescape DnD campaing. It's both quite fun and really awkward to make a fandragon of her, since her story has a lot to do with dragons (and nothing of that is positive), and I'm sure being portrayed as a dragon herself would've confused her greatly and probably get me sword-ed. :)

Here's something about her!
Profile
  • race: githyanki
  • class: wizard (evoker)/fighter (battlemaster)
  • alignment: neutral evil (with perhaps a change to true neutral down the line...?)
  • pronouns: she/her
  • orientation: aromantic pansexual

Sa'ara'dyr is the githyanki embodiment of second-hand embarrassment. She hatched and survived the merciless training process all githyanki hatchlings go through with splendid results. She showed so much promise that she didn't have to wait too long for a prestigious promotion to a knight. Foes were slain, swords were bloodied, towns were set on fire. Life was so good. Flying around the battlefield on a dragon's back, Sa'ara'dyr's career couldn't have started better.

Until she fell for her dragon's deception and let herself be lured to a secluded place in the Outlands, where her dragon companion (and in her eyes, her only friend) mocked her for her stupidity, bit off her sword arm and let her fall to her assumed death. Azokath the dragon didn't bother to finish her former partner off on purpose – she even hoped Sa'ara'dyr survives, because she knew the humiliation of that would be much worse (and much funnier to watch) than death.

The dragon was right. People from the nearby gate town rescued the injured githyanki, and so Sa'ara'dyr the Talented Young Knight ended and Sa'ara'dyr the Disfigured Pariah begun. She knew off the bat she couldn't return home in her state, as her people would be quick to kill her, both for her failure to recognize Azokath as a traitor and for her disability. So instead of that, she decided to travel to the planar city of Sigil, make enough money there to afford a sturdy combat-ready prosthetic and return home only after she found and killed the traitorous dragon.

Little did she know that making money when stuck in Sigil's slums was a tall order, and so was staying mentally afloat when her entire identity came down like a house of cards. Her fall left her with a brain injury and the need to re-learn many of her former skills again, and her haughtiness and githyanki-typical xenophobia left her on her own and desperate for company. That she eventually found, but building relationships, making compromises and cooperating with people who don't take commands from her proved a much bigger challenge than Sa'ara'dyr ever anticipated.

tldr; She's the loseriest loser to ever lose, has the social skills of a sentient chainsaw and she is so full of mental illness and trauma she could use the excess as hair gell. She needs to learn the power of friendship, and perhaps also some decency. She likes arts and crafts.

Dragon details: To portray a gith, a Ridgeback is the clear choice, imho. Sa'ara'dyr is very androgynous and I wanted to go with the pointiest option, so the gendering of the pose doesn't really matter. The familiar is a nod to my friend's OC who is Sa'ara'dyr's best friend and life-partner (and the father of her two hatchlings). The family owns an alchemy store, which inspired my choice for the scene!
  • in-lore connection to other OCs (unfortunately couldn't be replicated with dragons):
Kadath - son
Kimarlas - son
Zyn - a friend (partner?) to her son, Kadath
Nar'l, Ilphirin - family members of her partner (the father and grandfather respectively)
Algernon - a partner to her son, Kadath, and an unoficial family member
