Biography
Grim was adopted in troubled times. Though Rory had paved the way for a warm welcome, other Imperials were still cautious around him. Only Rory wasn't, she felt obligated, at first that is, then it became a joy to learn from the younger one how Royalty were treated and taught in such a different region. Much to Grims dismay though Rory treated him like a child, a protégé, not an equal. He strived to change that at every chance he got, always feeling like he is a step behind her.
Finally after what felt like an eternity to him, he triumphed over her. While Rory explained to some of the clans guardsmen how to scare away and fight the wild beasts around here more effectively, Grim constantly corrected her when it came to anatomy of the beast. Adding at the end some plants the creatures like to eat and poisons that could incapacitating or even kill them easily and ways to mix them both. He held his head high, proud of all the work he did, all the knowledge he gathered, he didn't even noticed how he hurt Rory in the process.
Only after Violetta pointed it out to him, he noticed how Rorys smile hardly ever reached her eyes anymore, how she began talking less and sometimes even skipping the lessons, though she was the one who started them.
When Rory once again didn't showed up for the lesson, he decided to conclude it early and visited her. Her small space was decorated with engraved bones, feathers, dried flowers and old books and there among a pile of cushions she laid, curled up and reading.
"You missed the class, again.", he roared. She only gave him a glance. "Why? It was your project, your.. your passion!", he continued accusing her.
Slowly she lifted her head and faced him with a lonely smile: "What are you so angry about, little Grim? You had it so good under control, I just took the chance to pick up some studies I hadn't had the time to lately."
With a growl he answered, his mane standing on end, tears in his eyes: "What are you saying?! I don't.." He grows quieter, grinding his teeth, even shaking a little. "I don't know nearly as much about animal behaviour as you do.. or beasts.. or even these shadetouched monstrosities that haunt these woods! I.. I can't do that without you! I've never seen them up close, I just read about them... I need you!"
A moment of delicate silence fell over them. Surprised she stared at him, watched his lips quiver, carefully stepping closer, she let him. "You silly little boy.", she cooed, breaking the silence and shifting a bit to the side, making room for him.
Both picked up the classes again, teaching together and complementing each other rather than competing. And slowly but surely they teach the whole clan how to survive without needing to kill and how to pacify the wildlife.
