Marisa had always been caught between two worlds. There was the world of mortals where she'd been meant to exist. Then, there was the world of spirits. She'd been able to see this strange world ever since she was a child. . . ever since she'd lost her pearl along with all of the memories it once contained.

Perhaps she'd had a family once, but she couldn't recall. Instead, the Pearlcatcher's earliest memories are those of a strange orb she stumbled upon in the woods. It was an old wooden orb that resembled an enormous bead, its surface carved and painted with intricate patterns. The moment she touched it, the Pearlcatcher found herself gazing upon a world that went unseen by most mortals.


Over the years, the Pearlcatcher came to realize that the bead she carried had once belonged to a great Kitsune and the longer she clutched it, the more her own form began to reflect that of a fox. The bead itself became barely recognizable beneath the layers of pearlescent memories she'd lain down over it. It now looked much like a normal pearl, but the Kitsune bead still thrummed at its center.
