Seaphira appears at first to be very quiet and shy, though once she passes that first awkward stage of meeting new creatures she opens up to a much more bubbly, cheerful dragon. She’s kind to all those she meets, trying to help out who she can. She loves to meet new people, however greatly dislikes those who take pleasure in harming others. Ira is trying to accept the fact that some dragons have to eat meat to survive, but that doesn't mean that she enjoys seeing it. Even in her mature stage, she can still act a bit childish, but it's all part of her nature. Her one main problem is she suffers from the butterfly effect (i.e.: blah blah blah bla- Oh butterfly!).

To some her attitude towards other dragons may be bizarre but it’s not her fault, rather how her kind views others. A female such as herself gains respect based on how many clutches they can produce and how easily they can attract potential mates. At the same time, looks are very critical especially their colors. Females are normally blues, greens and purple while males are typically reds, yellows and oranges. This causes her to make a bad first impression at times, though being away from her home lands is teaching her to not always think this way.

More often than would be considered healthy, you can find her lying in tall grasslands or in forests watching the world move around her as she takes great pleasure in the simplest things. Now as she enters another change, her body has grown from that of a hatchling, to a teen, then a young adult and now a mature butterfly dragon. Lately the prospective males around DCL are catching her eye as she enters a time when she can first start clutching. Even as the males pass her by, she feels shy to speak to any of them, and also afraid of many more. Along with her change, brings more courage from her. She's not as scared to walk up to someone and say hello. In her past lives she had two friends, but they have both disappeared to somewhere she cannot reach them. Perhaps this time she can make longer lasting friendships.

Seaphira's final cocoon was located at the place she called home in a naturally created forest thicket not far from one of the larger meadows of the Dragon Lands. Here she felt comfortable and at ease with herself and everything around here and it was here she was encased before hatching. For nearly a season she remained cocooned, her mind floating on the edge of sub consciousness and a void of all thought and feeling as she grew and changed to what she would call her final skin and look. She had had a trying time in the past stages of her life, but now she would once again be reborn to innocence and freedom. On her hatching day, however, she did not expect to meet three dragons near her den. A small young dragon by the name of Nai, a rather pretty purple colored male oriental called Kesceo and the first other butterfly dragon she had ever seen, Aeterno. Once she was fully exposed from her cocoon, she could not fly for her wings were still damp, yet somehow along the way they came up with the idea to look for strawberries for Seaphira since her stomach was empty. They raced across the meadow, the three of them with Nai in the lead and Ira not far behind. Since that first day she has not seen little Nai or Kesceo, but she has seen Aeterno. Lately however he has disappeared and Seaphira hasn’t seen him in over a year. With her friend gone, she’s trying to meet new fun creatures.

Present Day:
Seaphira has had her ups and down, relationship woes and new friendships forged. Aeterno has returned as a powerful wizard, and while Ira still feels a bit awkward around him, she's glad to see him back. Moving into the cities and away from the wild fields to try a fresh start on life, she has acquired new hobbies such has volunteer work at animal shelters and soup kitchens in the winter months. For a time she worked for her friend Fafnir as a salesdragon before he opened a new forge outside the butterfly village. Since then she's met a very close friend by the name Aaron who has helped to open the doors for Seaphira as a model. Finally, after so much disgrace, she's starting to turn a new leaf and make something of herself that her mother can be proud of!

Facts about Seaphira

  • When Seaphira is feeling flirtatious, her wings give off the smell of Lilacs
  • She can speak both verbally and with her mind
  • She cannot fly as an anthro.
  • Her heart beat can beat three times faster then a normal dragon
  • Her high heart beat gives her the ability to beat her wings very fast, and even hover in one spot
  • The spots down along her spine symbolize the untapped magicks she can one day unlock and control.
  • Her antenna give her the ability to look at someone and see their lifesource, much like a beacon of light to show that something is indeed living. She can see ghosts with this ability, but the light is to dim that sometimes she cannot see them.
  • Seaphira sees with a combination of eyes and antenna to see people. Her antenna mask out the outline of a person in her mind, while her eyes fill in with color.

Family and Friends

Aewyn: (NPC) Aewyn is Seaphira's mother, and her biggest source of self doubt. While she loves her mother, they don't have a close bond. Aewyn tried to set Seaphira up with Fafnir, but it failed (horribly) in her opinion. While her daughter hasn't amounted to her standards, Aewyn has made a name for herself as the Town Magistrate for the Butterfly village Mirefield.

Rathan: Rathan found Seaphira when she was in her first change, a scared little dragon who thought she was supposed to be only 1-5' long yet she was closer to 20'. Rathan's heart melted for the little butterfly dragon and so he took her under his wing, treating her as if he were her uncle and showing her how to survive on her own.

Odephirus: Odephirus also found Seaphira during her first change, when they were both young children. Odephirus was scared and lonely from the loss of his parents, and Seaphira had no one to play with. They adopted each other and before long became like brother and sister to each other.

Mauryanna: Mauryanna and Seaphira have been friends since Mauryanna traveled to the forest Ira lives in. Anna was wary of Ira at first to see a large dragon living in an area full of predators, but once she found out that Ira was a plant eater like herself, she was very relieved. Ever since they two have been inseparable on those evenings Ira spends at her home. Ira considers her a best friend.

Fafnir: Fafnir and Seaphira first met when her mother tried to set them up. The attraction wasn't there, but they did become good friends! She even worked for him for a time at his original forge within the butterfly village.

Zenfenix: Seaphira met Zenfenix through her guardian that raised her through part of her life, Rathan. Zen looks at Ira as a sister and does what he can to protect her and watch out for her. Ira doesn't know him that well, but she likes him and thinks he's really sweet, if not also a bit scary.

Detailed information about her species

Ver Veris Papilio Draco, or better known as the Spring Butterfly Dragon, is a much larger species then its cousins. They inherit their name for always clutching in the spring time, and also for their young being born - or hatched - during this same time of year. Also, during the spring is when they are most active, enjoying the newly acquainted plants, flowers, and wildlife awakening after their winter sleep. They also love shiny objects and jewelry, and are known to often adorn themselves with it. Sometimes they will even pass down large stones through generations. All Spring Butterfly Dragons can speak to insects and some arachnids.

Spring Butterfly Dragons do not grow like normal dragons, who simply age in years, but rather go through changes (metamorphosis) to grow from being first born, juvenile, young adult, and mature adult each divided by a time span within a cocoon. Each stage in their life has its own quirks, abilities and looks. Males look different then females, and both age at different rates.

All Spring Butterfly Dragons have one pair of wings, are brightly colored with one set of horns atop their skull. No Butterfly Dragon is the same, each with their own markings but horn displays can carry through family lines. Both male and female have long manes down their necks and a fur ploom on the end of their tail (although this does not show up until they are juveniles); Three toes on the front and three in the back. Also, every Spring Butterfly Dragon has their own set of intenni and a set of deer like ears.

Male Butterfly dragons are typically composed of warm colors (red, yellow, orange, etc.), though can very rarely come in a mixture of cool and warm colors. They are typically a few feet taller and longer in their female counterparts during their stages of Young Adult and Mature adult. Their wings are thicker with more powerful limbs and are not nearly as fragile as the females, but no less impressive in display. Males are also stockier in build, more like a Western Dragon. Males will sometimes sport a nostril horn which is used in battle against other male rivals. When it comes to their wings, the male's will flow better and will be more rounded on the ends, with no jagged points or finger endings.

Female Spring Butterfly Dragons are smaller and more serpentine consisting of cool colors (purple, blue, green, etc.), though can very rarely come in a mixture of cool and warm colors. This allows for a larger canal to carry young within, and gives them better maneuverability in the skies from attacking foes. Unlike males, their wings have feathers along the larger forearm of the wing, and a feather ploom just above their rump. Their wings are also jagged on the ends normally, with long finger like ends. Sometimes the ends of the fingers of the wings will curl or change directions.

The cocoon is what separates each stage in a Spring Butterfly's life. No matter the gender, it will always be green and yellow in color and typically will be attached to a rock or large tree. Spring Butterfly Dragon's do not spin their cocoons, but rather find a place secluded from the world where they think they won't be disturbed, and will curl into a tight ball. From there, it will look like vines grow from the base of their feet and from the ground, gradually encasing them to their chosen place. Depending on their age, each cocoon time is different. Typically from first born (hatching) to Juvenile, it takes a cocoon time of thirty days. Juvenile to Young adult, three to six months, and Young Adult to Mature Adult three months to a year. The cocoons are naturally hard as a rock and leathery to the touch, making them hard to disturb or destroy. What yellow spots are on the cocoon will remain dim until a few days before hatching where they will begin to glow brightly, till they are almost blinding on the day of hatching.

Spring Butterfly Dragons can be either laid in clutches of eggs, or born alive. It is really the choice of the mother and whether she intends to raise them herself or to leave them to survive on their own. Typically if there are very few of her race around the surrounding terrain they will lay clutches to watch over since this is easiest on the mother in the long run. She will dutifully watch her clutch, taking turns with her mate to forage for food or egg sit. An egg clutch takes six months to gestate before being laid. If there is an abundance of Spring Butterfly Dragons, the mother will hold her eggs for two months longer, giving the young a chance to grow a bit larger and have better chances of survival, for once they are born they are on their own and the mother will abandon them. It is not so much out of cruelty, but to preserve the ecosystem. For a Spring Butterfly Dragon understands that too many plant eating dragons in one area can be devastating.

Which ever method the mother chooses, once the hatchling comes into the world it is instinctively hungry and will look for food. Typically, if the mother chooses to tend for her young she will have a small cache of fruits, nuts and greens awaiting them. First born Spring Butterfly Dragons are not very intelligent, and cannot speak any real language. Their speech includes body language and a series of cries, squeaks, and chirps. They cannot speak mind to mind yet, and are very primitive compared to their parents.

The bodies of Spring Butterfly Dragons, whether male or female, look almost identical. They are the same size, with primarily black bodies, large black intenni, walk on four legs, no hair, and will only have a small colored spine down their neck, a seraded marking on their thigh, and jagged butterfly wings. The only difference between female and male is that the color of their wings and the spines on their neck are cool colored for females, and warm colored for males (see picture above for a reference of both).

Their diet includes a large amount of nuts for protein, fruits if they can be found, and dandelions. Typically if they are abandoned by their mothers, they will live in forests for added protection against larger predators, otherwise they will live wherever their parents reside.

When they are first born, they are two to three feet long with a wing span of four feet. They grow quickly and inside of three years can grow up to twelve feet long. Now long after reaching this size, they will cocoon themselves for the first time to advance into their juvenile stage of life.

The juvenile stage is one of the hardest stages for a Spring Butterfly Dragon. Besides their mature adult form, this is their longest stage to endure and one of the most dangerous. Any true defenses haven't grown in yet and their only protection is flight and their size. The keep the same design of wings as when they were hatchlings, but the black fades away into a darker cool color for females or a darker warm color for males. The black coloring instead covers the limbs of their wings. They begin to grow hair along their neck and the end of their tail and also have a short simple set of horns. Their intenni and whiskers remain the same where as the spot on their brow changes into a large gem. At this age both males and females will start to adorn themselves with jewels if they haven't already and will become more independent of their parents.

When they come out of their cocoons, males will keep their short stocky build where as the female's body will begin to lengthen. Not very noticeable unless you stand them next to a male. They also for the first time have a true set of ears and have some intelligence. They can speak intelligibly for the first time and can understand others talking to them, although their vocabulary list is still a little limited. When they hatch they are fourteen feet long and will grow more slowly until they are at twenty feet long for females, fifteen to eighteen feet long for males with a wingspan of twenty-five feet. This usually takes eight to twelve years, depending on the available nutrition in the area, and competition with other Butterfly Dragons. Sometimes it can take up to twenty years to finally be able to advance to their young adult form.
