Biography

Caer Ventus
Inner Circle

Pearlcatchers are the superior breed. Gambit knows that full well. He's a perfectly healthy dragon who hasn't lost his pearl due to unforeseen circumstances. So why did he deign to become a member of this ragtag mixed-breed Clan? As with some of the best stories ever told, the answer to that question is...love.

Bored and unimpressed with his life in the Sunbeam Ruins, the young Pearlcatcher bid adieu to his parents and set out to make a fortune for himself. In his travels, he stumbled across the peaceful Zephyr Steppes, and here decided to settle down and carve out his own Clan.

This turned out to be harder than he thought. The Pearlcatchers he approached were unwilling to join a Clan with no connections, no prominent members, and a leader who wasn't even fully-grown, while the other dragons who did accept his offer were all deemed too inferior in breed to be in this grand new Clan. Stamping his talons in consternation, he returned to his newly-dug lair...alone.

Now, Gambit had seen some beautiful female dragons in his travels. They were all perfectly respectable, just not quite to his taste. But when he laid eyes on the young Fae that was digging up some treasure far below, his wings literally stopped flapping. He didn't even notice himself falling out of the sky until he hit the ground hard, his precious pearl rolling away down the hill.

By the time he gathered his wits and thought to look for his pearl, the turquoise and blue Fae was already on it. Flapping her tiny wings to heave the lustrous pearl before him, she asked him if he was a lone dragon and if he needed help. Overwhelmed with gratitude and wonder, Gambit followed her back to her Clan, where, surrounded by these concerned and certainly-not-inferior dragons, he finally made up his mind.

He would stay with Levante's Clan, if only to be with Zephrys. That night, he recorded his memory on his pearl, and though this new layer wasn't much different from the others he'd applied before, he decided that this was the memory that made his pearl shine the brightest.

Gambit wrote:
I'm the best thing that's ever happened to this clan.

Permanent familiar: Gold-Throated Sparrow. Rescued from a bird seller who couldn't sell it. Suggested to be out of its mind. Loves hopping on the spot, nibbling ears and being silly.

Name origin: Contrary to popular belief, Gambit was not named after the X-men comic book character. Instead, it refers to 'an opening move in chess in which a player makes a sacrifice, typically of a pawn, for the sake of a compensating advantage'.
