Biography
Leiliel II is the daughter of a lord and lady, both members of the royal court. She didn't much like court life, though, so as soon as she was old enough, she ran away to the sea.
The first ship she saw was a cargo ship bound for the land across the sea. She signed on as a lookout, and her first voyage began. It wasn't a very long voyage, though; as soon as they were out of sight of the harbor, pirates attacked, leaving the ship foundering within minutes. This was, in a way, her first stroke of luck. Instead of leaving the crew to fend for themselves, the pirates offered each of them a choice: either become a crewmate, or take a chance on the ocean. Most of the crew chose to leave - as land wasn't too far away, and they were generally law-abiding citizens that disliked the idea of piracy - but Leiliel stayed. The sea had entranced her already, and she felt she couldn't bear to go back to the shore, where her parents would surely be waiting to keep her there the rest of her life.
She always counted that as the start of her second voyage, although really it was still her first. Regardless, once she had grown accustomed to how the ship ran, she began to feel much more at home among the pirates than she ever had anywhere else. She especially loved the evenings, when her crewmates would sing loud, cheerful songs and beat out a rhythm that made Leiliel want to dance. But more than that, she loved the night watches, when everyone was asleep and the only sound was the gentle thumping of the waves against the ship. That was when the pixies came out to play.
The first time Leiliel saw them, she thought they were fireflies, and eagerly pointed them out to the dragon who was keeping watch with her. He told her that they weren't really there, and told her a story about the sirens, who would sing to lure unwary sailors. "Perhaps this is your siren's song," he joked, before leaving her to gaze in wonder at the floating specks of light. She didn't argue this, because even though she was smart enough not to follow them overboard, sometimes she almost wanted to.
