Grandma Skyling Tells a Story
Skyling was the ninth dragon to arrive in the Windstone clan. She found this clan when she was seeking her charge. She stayed in the Windstone Clan, called by something, but she wasn't sure what that something was. Eventually, she realized the clan itself was her charge.

Initially, Skyling guarded individual dragons when they were ambassadors to other clans, especially one ambassador called Haruki. Sometimes she would protect the clan from unexpected danger. Occasionally she didn't know her own strength. She would blame herself for days afterward if she thought she caused unintended harm. She followed the clan from lair to lair. She saw a portion of the clan take to the Cloudsong to form a school.

Then, one day, she found the one item every dragon dreads to find.

Broken Heartstone

A day later, the clan was attacked and left in scattered tatters. She protected everyone she could, but she could not save everyone. She was fortunate to save herself.

When the remainder of the clan finally found a safe place in Singer's Brook, she helped guard the initial outpost until the village was made. Over time, she realized that her injuries from the attack had hobbled her. Her clanmates convinced her that it was okay to retire. Still, she keeps half an eye on the town and helps hunt sometimes, unable to sit still. Hatchlings love to hear "Grandma Skyling" regale them with stories about her travels with Haruki.
