Belnan doesn't seem to actually work at the inn. He just has permanent residence in a partitioned corner furthest from the door. Nobody's entirely sure what he's doing there, especially since the books he carries around don't seem to be written in any language that exists.

The walls around him are plastered with maps of sornieth, extensively labelled and with seemingly random locations marked. These are interspersed with maps that don't seem to mark any location that actually exists.

He also has a larger map of just the southern icefields marked with dates and locations that seem to track the travelling of the inn, with at least three other maps overlaid. Lines are drawn on the conglomeration seemingly at random, and all the locations of the inn follow the lines to some degree. Other than that, there doesn't appear to be a pattern.

Generally, the staff of the inn leave him be, and the main theory is that he's a cartographer of sorts.

But some say he's looking for something.
