|| Background
Calahan is from the Windswept Plateau, hatched and raised in the Millmeadows by a loving mother. His father was unfortunately called to service of the Windsinger not long after his nest hatched, but his wife remained and made sure that their children remembered their father fondly. Calahan spent his youth playing with his younger sister and pouring over books and scrolls in his local library, discovering his true passion early— to be a scholar.

He spent his whole childhood studying and collecting books and knowledge, even after his sister left home with tearful farewells. Being a caring type, Calahan didn't want to leave his aging mother, but she urged him to chase his dream, reassuring him she would be all right. With her blessing and gifts, Calahan applied to be a scholar at the Tourmaline Archives, a lifelong dream of his. He was accepted, and said goodbye to the Millmeadows, bringing his tomes with him.

In the Archives, Calahan excelled. He was not the finest of his peers, but he shone in many ways, including his tenacity, becoming a competent and respected scholar amongst them. It didn't take long for him to be assigned a larger project, which happened to be cataloguing and writing a book on alchemical productions in Sornieth. He was also paired with an alchemist who had applied to volunteer their knowledge, an alchemist who turned out to be one Ochiba Cimmerian.

Spending time with Ochiba to work with him swiftly became time spent as friends, and the two fell in love in the Archives while Calahan was working on the book they were making together. By the time he was almost done, the pair were wed in one of the Archives' main halls, and agreed to move out once it was finished. They thankfully knew what to do, and Calahan said goodbye to the Tourmaline Archives and traveled to the then-young Rara Avis with his new husband.

Now comfortably situated in his new home, Calahan has found peace in the creation of the Rara Avis Public Library with Usha, the clan scribe. While Usha prefers to manage and sort the books they have there, the more outgoing Calahan happily guides guests and writes up his own books in the comfort of the library, as well as offering tea in the front.

When not busy in the library, Calahan often visits his husband's laboratory, or lets him visit while he's working. The two are quite close, and are both very friendly, although Calahan is the more laid-back of the pair. They never had children, and don't want any, but he gets along with hatchlings rather well and frequently teaches the young in the clan how to read and write. He's very much a soothing, placid presence in Rara Avis, whose gentle demeanor is always appreciated. If you ever need advice or simply a shoulder to cry on, Calahan is the one to go to.

◈ During a noticeably rebellious stage in his early years of being a scholar at the Archives, Calahan got tattooed. The patterns on his wings are all tattoos, and though his normal garb usually covers this, his shoulders and arms are also inked. Apparently, his husband finds them quite dashing.
◈ Calahan was hatched with weak wingbones, and has never been much of a flier. His wing armor is custom-made to help support his wings, but he still avoids flying whenever he can.
◈ Serana is Calahan's valued assistant, and the two met during his time in the Archives. They both value knowledge and scholarship, and they consider each other close friends. Serana sleeps in the library, and takes care of it while he and Usha are gone.
◈ Calahan is in his early forties.
◈ Unfortunately, Calahan's younger sister was exalted some years prior, and his mother passed away not too long after he moved to Rara Avis. He has tried to get in touch with his only remaining sibling (from his mother's first marriage), but they have not made much headway in fostering a relationship.
