Elessar was denied his seed. Barely a hatchling, he coiled beneath the underbelly of the Pearlcatcher who dared defend him. Low to the ground he sank, until no lower could be go. His chin rubbed the ground as dirt flew to his nostrils. His tail he curled around to block the remaining debris and the roaring defiance of those above.

Sylvia spat at the ground of Aesop’s tree. Few keepers loomed close, but any of them could hear as the great trunk groaned against the breeze. It spoke to all of them, but none understood it. A dark fire grew in Sylvia’s throat, All who pass are offered their seed. She shifted her weight so the scales of her belly almost rolled against Elessar’s head.

As they knew, she spoke truth. All were offered that which was theirs. Hatchling or no, it mattered not to the orchard. Their own trees agreed, and sloped curiously in the coming wind. But the great trunk of Aesop's tree only moaned louder, and they all shivered at its sound.

The Guardian himself lumbered towards them from the trunk's massive shadow. Elessar squirmed at the sight. Had he been there all along? Aesop's dark hide held no luster, and the moss of his wings grew into the branches above. Elessar allowed only a quick glance, before retreating further to the ground. Sylvia tensed.

There are no more seeds to give. Aesop curled his neck to gaze at them all below.
