Biography
Alaula
of Light Branch
Lightworker Choreographer, Senior Lightdancer
of Halo
of the Watch
Gentle Light of Dawn
~ Alaula ~
Alaula is the choreographer, or senior leader, of all Lightworkers at the Tree of Dawn. She selects, trains, and leads lightworkers at the Halo, assisted by the Tree's Light Sprite and her fellow senior Lightworkers. When she's not at Halo, she can be found at Light Branch teaching new Lightworkers and Lightdancers, or racing outside the tree at dawn with her brother and friends.
~ The Light Branch ~
The light branch is inhabitat by several families of dragons with light, golden colouration. Unique to the Light Branch is their naming conventions; Faiella, the guide of the light branch, names each new permanent member of the light branch in accordance with old tradition.
~ Lightdancers ~
Lightdancers are the warriors of the Light Branch, and almost all are members of the Watch in some capacity. Most don't wear anything; their feathers are all they need to provide warmth, and they enjoy the agility and free feeling of the wind in their wings. They are agile and skilled in the martial arts, adept at fighting in the open in bright daylight. For more information about the lightdancers, consult their choreographer:

~ The Halo and its Lightworkers ~
Suspended over the great orb at Crown Centre, the heart of the tree, is a massive ring platform of solid brass crisscrossed with magical patterns and runes. Known as Halo, for it glows bright gold with the reflected light from the miniature sun, it acts as the observation and control centre of the Tree in both peacetime and wartime.
Lightworkers, adepts at light energy magic and manipulation, work on Halo in shifts of three to four, caring for the orb, feeding it with light from the canopy and and drawing upon the immense reserves of radiant magic to accomplish tasks impossible for any single dragon or artifact. Most notably, lightworkers specialized in the art of scrying amplify their abilities using the Halo, extending their awareness over large distances and into the immediate future, keeping watch over the Tree and its surrounding environs all the way to Cloudsong on one side and the Beacon of the Radiant Eye at the other. Other lightworkers at Halo may be skilled in the offensive arts, channelling light energy through a network of crystals and structures into concentrated direct energy beams to strike down foes, or in the defensive arts, raising a shield of light around other dragons or the Tree itself.
Lightworker teams stationed at outposts beyond the tree can also set up smaller temporary "daughter" orbs and observation rings at outposts to extend the sensory range of the Tree, creating a beyond-the-horizon early warning network for incursions of beast clans, emperor dragons, manifestations of the shade, and any other aberrations and anomalies worth investigation.
The most sensitive lightworkers on duty can detect when a dragon is in need, and even the nature of their need, within several leagues of the tree. Dragons making their first flight to the tree often fall prey to exhaustion, and it is from here that they are watched and Sealcaya and her other Guides notified, even when the approaching dragons are still over half a day's flight from the Tree.
If need be, a cooperating pair of lightworkers are capable of projecting huge golden holograms of the tree or any other subject of interest. In wartime or during important events, the Halo becomes the bustling nerve centre for operations, an open-air war-room; multiple holograms of the tree, islands and surrounding airspace and oceans are suspended above and around the ring, while the commanders and advisors of the Watch coordinate and deal with issues as they arise. Should the direction of the parliament be necessary, the entire parliament chamber from the secretariat below, as well as the faces of allied commanders, teams and companies of dragons in flight, and other key dragons at the tree, can be holographically projected around the ring as well, for maximum realtime communications and decision-making to gain an edge in any combat or emergency.
Lightworkers are led in their work at Halo by Alaula, the choreographer, as well as her fellow senior lightworkers.
