Nemesis
The Gardener

“Watch your step, and don't touch anything.”

Gardening is a quiet profession, so they say. Something nice and peaceful, with no more to trouble the gardener than curbing an errant infestation of dandelions, or the wild spread of mint. But it's not so for Nemesis. For her, gardening is a battle, and it's one she's going to win. Her problems are twofold. The rich volcanic soil of the Ashfall Waste is one part, welcoming whatever seeds fall into its embrace and helping them grow unusually hearty and strong, whether they be weed or deliberately planted. Her own magic is the other, rather more demanding, part. Arcane magic has a tendency to twist and warp the things exposed to it for long periods of time, and Nemesis happens to be possessed of especially strong magic, which radiates off her whether she wants it to or not. It makes her tomatoes grow to the size of her head, but it also sometimes makes them grow fangs and attack unwary visitors.

Nemesis' garden is massive and lush, on a scale rarely seen outside the Viridian Labyrinth. It's also dangerous on a scale rarely seen outside the Viridian Labyrinth. She has to cut the path through it clear every day, since if she misses a few days, her garden will overgrow it completely. Some of the plants are almost beast-like, reaching out towards her with their leaves in welcome when she comes close. She carries little treats with her for her favorites, chopped up vegetables, insects, raw meat, or live mice, depending on their preference. Some of the plants, however, are less friendly. When she says she's dealing with aggressive weeds, she means it literally. They grow massive, with thorns like claws, vines like strangling nooses, and flowers like snapping jaws. She has to fight her way through them as a matter of course, and has occasionally had to use a powerful blast of arcane magic as the equivalent of a bomb to destroy the most persistent ones down to the roots.

Nemesis has a very no-nonsense attitude towards everything, from gardening to interactions with other dragons. She doesn't have time for idle chatter when a particularly fast-growing strain of kudzu might be taking over her garden. She has very little sentimentality as well, since what others might see as a pretty little flower, she sees as a weed that will probably try to spit poison at her if she doesn't yank it up with extreme prejudice. She simply doesn't have time for anyone who's not willing to pick up a shovel and help her with her garden if they must talk at her. Quite frankly, she does not have the patience to put up with any nonsense whatsoever. She's not a sweet and nurturing gardener. She's one who knows that if she takes her eyes off her plants, one of them will probably try to eat an unwary clan member.

Although she might seem unfriendly, Nemesis doesn't dislike other dragons on principle. She's just brusque and doesn't arrange her priorities quite like others expect her to. She doesn't have any patience for those who expect her to act other than she is to make them feel better, or for those who want her to do something silly like go on a date with them. The flowers her would be romancers have brought her are a disgrace. A bouquet of cut roses? Do they call those dinky little things thorns? Bring her a bouquet of hydra snapdragons and then she'll be impressed. She has a tongue as sharp as the thorns on her (much more impressive) roses, and sees no reason not to tell anyone what she thinks about them. Those who expect flattery and admiration tend to find her unbearable, but there are still those among the clan who admire her honesty, sharp wit, and ability to behead a rampaging dandelion with a trowel.
