Cynda was taken ahold of by Malum during a summoning ritual that went wrong. She had meant to call upon a much less powerful dark spirit. It is not known whether Cynda made or mistake, or Malum merely seized this opportunity to take a victim, but Malum was summoned instead. He took ahold of her, like one might take control of a vehicle. She was no longer in control of her own body, and could only watch as she killed everyone in her own clan. The shock of seeing everyone she had ever known dead shook her enough to fight back. She regained control of herself, and continues to fight Malum's influence over her every day. She uses the power she gained from him to heal others.

Where there is Light, there is Darkness. And just as Light takes many forms and goes by many names, so does its opposite. One such name is Malum.

Malum is a force of Evil that seeks to spread its influence and cause pain and suffering to those who cross its path. It searches for a host dragon to let it in, often using deception to achieve its end. Once Malum has entered a dragon, it attempts to use them to wreak havoc and to harm others, and to spread its influence further.

Some Maledictus fight against the Evil within them and attempt to use their newfound power for good. Others cannot, or will not. All are individuals and cannot be judged based on appearance.
