Shoto Todoroki, or Todoroki, didn't have the best childhood. Born for the sole purpose of surpassing his father's rival, he was forced to endure brutal training at the mere age of four. His mother--who was only married to his father for breeding purposes--snapped due to his father's abusive tendencies. While in the process of calling her mother to try and move back home, Todoroki overheard. He was scared; perhaps as scared as his mother. "He grows more like his father everyday. His left side is unsightly." She had said, pouring boiling water from the kettle onto his face. Due to this, he now has a scar on the left side of his face. He doesn't blame his mother, instead, hating his father. Todoroki was recommended to UA, and didn't have to undergo the practical test. He loathes his fire power due to it being his father's, and has vowed to not use it. During the sports festival, however, when facing off against Midoryia, he's convinced to use it after remembering his mother's words in a long suppressed memory. After this battle, Todoroki was still hesitant to use his left side. He strives to be a pro hero, much like his father. He still resents him, of course. Due to his childhood, he has psychological scars that emerge from time to time. He's constantly rebelling against his father, choosing to become a hero for himself, not to surpass All Might. During his (required) internship with his father he was texted Midoryia's location with no information during a patrol. Confused, he quickly followed only to find Iida, Midoryia, and another pro hero engaged in battle with Stain, the hero killer. He immediately went to fighting alongside Midoryia. They barely won, with Midoryia, Iida, and Todoroki all being paralyzed at some point in the battle.
