Underneath the watchful gaze of stars long ago painted across a calm, berry-colored sky lay, on the border of shadow and earth, two small dragons, their recently discarded egg shells close by. They squirmed helplessly around their moss-covered nest, but no warmth comforted them, no loving mother to hold them close. They whimpered in confusion and fear, but no dragon answered their calls.
For days they only had each other, only able to huddle close to the other for warmth, until one night they were found by a kind Wildclaw on her way back from gathering herbs. The dragon's name was Sage, a healer living in a small Earth clan.

When she found them, they were both cold to the touch, and they were too weak to react as she gently lifted them onto her back, letting them rest between her large, green wings as she carried them back to her clan.

The two sisters looked nearly identical, apart from two features--
One had earthy brown eyes, and purple crystals covered her body. She had dusty, spotted green feathers, which were fluffed up against the chill of the night.

The other's feathers looked like they had been stained with shadows, as if she had sat in the Shadowbinder's drool herself-- and her eyes, her eyes were the most shocking part.
Her eyes a deep, deep orchid.
She had been born in shadow.

The clan had never known hatchlings before who had been from the same nest, yet had each been claimed by different deities.
