Biography
Thoren ShiKai - Song Of The Ancients (cover) |
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> |
Thoren is a regal and enigmatic spirit who often visits the library, often curling up in nooks and crannies to read as many books as he can. He avoids most contact with the Visitors, preferring to stay in his own company, although he will occasionally talk to the residents. Apparently he is trying to understand what happened to the world after his death, and is trying to catch up on current events. Before his death, Thoren was part of a band of knights who arrived from unknown lands to try and make a living here in Sorienth many hundreds of years ago. He was very close with them, and they viewed each other as family. Most of them are dead now, and he doesn't talk about them much. He prefers to speak the language of his homeland, and unfortunately that language was never recorded anywhere. Thoren often speaks to Isen, the other warrior ghost who started visiting the library at the same time he did. |
"I miss my family, sure, but I'm okay without them. I have a new family now."
Art here
I stared up at the ceiling, eyes idly tracing the worn architecture. If I were in a better state I might have the presence of mind to find it beautiful, but it was too much energy to even keep my eyes open.
When had it come to this?
Bleeding out in a temple so far from home I doubted anyone I knew would ever find my body, my own sword still impaled in my chest. I could still hear the footsteps of my attacker walking away, even as I struggled to breathe. I didn't mind dying, I thought dimly, but I did wonder how my family was going to get on without me? Would they mourn me? How long would they search for me?
As my vision flickered and faded, I became aware of faint whispers around me. I closed my eyes and strained to listen. Was that the voice of my God, come to take me home?
The voices started to become louder and clearer. At first the language was unfamiliar, but the more I listened the more I could understand.
"Guys, is he seriously going to die here?"
"Our first visitors in over a thousand years, and one is left to bleed out on our expensive floors."
"It's not his fault."
"Hey, I think he's waking up."
I was. I slowly blinked open my eyes, sitting up and looking around. A cluster of dragons stared down at me, tilting their heads curiously. One of them, a light blue Imperial, was the first to speak. "Hello. Who are you?"
I struggled to get to my feet, to bow at the Imperial's feet. My injury didn't hurt anymore, although I didn't know how that was possible. "I am Thoren of the Inari knights," I said. "I am dreadfully sorry to disturb your temple with our fight, and I can assure you that I will be on my way soon."
The dragons looked at each other. "Thoren," the Imperial said, "we hate to tell you this, but unfortunately, you died in your fight."
I glanced back, and spotted my prone body, my elegant sword impaled through my chest, eyes closed. I reeled at the sight, unaccustomed to seeing myself this way.
To my surprise, a paw landed on my shoulder, and when I looked up the Imperial was smiling down at me. "Come on," he said softly. "We'll take care of you from now on."
