The wayward warrior has finally wandered back home, and has realized that his charge was here all along. His charge was not a dragon, or a place, or an object; it was something more abstract and immaterial.

I think I have learned something very important, a realization that I will carry with me the rest of my life. I will always seek to listen with compassion, to listen complexly, to not make assumptions before hearing and understanding. I will never let myself make judgements with hate. I will always, always seek to forgive, no matter how badly I have been hurt. I will never let myself be so blinded by hate that I cannot accept an entire group of people because of it. I will stand by my desire for peace and understanding, even if it seems no one else will, even if I am condemned for it, because I truly believe that that is what this world needs. This does not mean I will condone actions that hurt others, no, but I will still reach out in compassion, because hate met with hate only perpetuates a never ending vicious cycle. I make this as a declaration to myself here and now so that I will never forget.

I... did not reach this realization painlessly. It was a long, mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually draining process. There are things I have lost that I cannot get back, but like all such metamorphoses, I have emerged better and wiser than I was before. I am still young and have far to go, but I am glad to have learned this lesson when I did.
