The Scarred Matriarch
She is who to come to when you want a conflict resolved with blood.

Retilus' earliest memories are of stone and sun-baked earth, dust in her lungs and eyes and heart, and the shadow of the Pillar of the World cutting across broken ground. These days, she huffs and laughs and says she was born of the earth, parentless, immaculate.

Her life has always been a hard-scrabble thing, from lonely days on the Shattered Plain to the blur of roving with the savage, shifting tides of the mirror packs on their eternal Hunt. Her fierce pride and hunger to rule led her to bring many small bands under her firm claw in those years and any who would not submit were often left broken by the wayside.
This brutal approach to life earned her many enemies, and during a challenge with a male, she was set upon by dissenters that had chafed under her dominion. They gouged her face, clawed her legs, scored her hide, and shredded her glittering wings before leaving her in the dirt as she had left so many others.

Once again alone under the shadow of the great Pillar, she thought it was fitting that this would be where she died.

A clade of fae dragons led by Reulet - since left to serve the Earthshaker (may the rocks tremble at His name) - found her stinking of infection and barely clinging to life. She still snapped and hissed when they tried to help her, and it was only Reulet's insistent pleading that convinced his family to assist her anyway.

She was a feral, ungrateful creature, but time saw her grievous wounds turn to knotted scars and the strength come back to her frame. Reulet was the only one of the tiny, finned nuisances that she tolerated, because he was often silent and therefore agreeable company. When she was well and able enough, she left the family of fae dragons behind, with Reulet nestled under her crests. Her burning animal desire to rejoin the Hunt had blunted with time and she tired quickly in those days so they settled together in the Shattered Plains, where they made the only nest they shared. The union bore Rathi and Mustardseed, who have gone on to other clans and other packs while their father submitted to a greater service.

Now bonded to Vyklas and Hlaija, she has assumed the title of matriarch over the varied and eclectic collection of dragons that make her clan. She is sharp and dangerous but fiercely loyal to those who have earned such an honor. She prefers action to speech and the quickest way into her black heart is through displays of power or feats of strength. Vyklas and Hlaija have softened some of her hard edges, and it is on their word that she allows other dragons to join her pack of misfits. She can be insightful and wise but prefers to hide it under claws and teeth and wild, wild anger.
