Aionian was a dreamer, big dreams of time and its power. From a young age, he excelled at all that was presented to him, but nothing could make his heart flutter like the conversation of time. Time was that which you could not avoid, you could not touch, it seemed overwhelmingly powerful over all living creatures. Aionian wanted to know, could you change time? Was there a way to stop those clocks his father so carefully pieced together, that was not only physical but its ethereal mass?

He spent a long time alongside his father, his older brother a mere haze that lived in the same town. When his father was to leave him alone, he played with the time in his claws. As time caressed him as it passed, he held out his hand and reached for its core. Until one day, as it took the breath of another, Aionian grasped it.

At last, he had been able to create a clock with power over time, simple as it was he was able to reverse time on simple objects. A flower first, he burned it, watched it crumble and writhe in agony as the flames destroyed its being. A click on his watch and the flames had no trace of being there, the flower stood again.

Not long after he had completed his first prototype, Aionian spoke with his brother again. They spoke of trivial things, trivial to Aionian at least. Roan gushed to him about the girl he had met, how amazing she was. To Aionian the concept of loving another living being was unimportant, however, he was glad his brother was happy. Unfortunately, things could not last forever.

On a calm night Aionian was at work on his next prototype, a new watch that was more compact, that could reverse farther in time. The voices of others broke his concentration as he added the final pieces of the design. He placed his precious creation inside its case and headed to see what the commotion was.

As he turned the corner of their home he saw his mother embracing the crying trembling form of his older brother. He had known his brother to be weak emotionally, but what could make him hurt so much? He approached and placed a hand on his brothers back, not knowing how else to console him. His mother put a hand over his and smiled when their eyes met. Come morning he was to hear of the capture and murder of his brother's friend.

He was unsure of himself. Everything was in working order, the bird in front of him sang again. Yet why did he feel he had violated his rights? He opened the window, letting the bird soar to the sky again, the sky that may one day lead it straight back to the hawk that had knocked it from the sky and taken its life once before. The room behind him was bare, everything neatly packed away as he prepared for his move. His father entered the room, eyes heavy without sleep, as their eyes met, he smiled. He placed a hand on Aionian's shoulder, "Please, be safe. Don't do anything that you might regret." Aionian placed a hand over his fathers, "I'll try."

As he turned to see his home fading into the distance, he knew there was no going back. The mystical watch he had created was strung to his ear, close where no other dragon may one day reach for it. He couldn't let anyone know what he was able to do, not until he could fix things, he had to get her back, for him.
