Who, who are you really?
A socialite like Champagne (although not nearly as vain), Amethyst is a well-liked dragon among her clan mates. Although her job as a huntress keeps her away from home, when there she can often be found relaxing with her mate or catching up on the latest gossip. While Amethyst is kind but cautious with strangers and sweet and fun with friends, her real weakness is her family. All the clan remarks that no one is happier to be a mother than her, often sighted crying softly when holding her hatchlings. When she sees or hears from a family member she is known to break down into uncontrollable sobs. "Oh, _____, how I've missed you!" she cries, sometimes carelessly wiping away her tears with letters from family. Champagne makes sure all letters are carefully preserved so they aren't accidentally destroyed. Amethyst wears bandages galore to hide her copious scars--not out of a sense of shame (she is proud to admit they all come from battles in the field), but rather because they've scared children before. However, she refuses to cover her face, leaving the scar over her eye exposed. Amethyst is nearsighted and keeps her reading glasses tucked away in her scarf when not in use. In her hunting team, Amethyst plays support and strategist, providing stat boosts and tactics while on the field. |

And where, where are you going?
Amethyst was born to a small clan in the Starwood Strand, where she and her siblings would often play under the twinkling and inviting stars that bloomed every night in the branches of the trees. While for many, the whispering madness that lives there might be terrifying, for Amethyst, it's a comfort; a reminder of the warm days of her childhood.Being surrounded by wild Storm and Death Seekers as a child, she finds them naturally attracted to her, with several adopting her as familiars--however, the most infamous of these is Murder, a Death Seeker with a nasty glare and a sharp beak. She followed Amethyst to the Viridian Labyrinth, much to Amethyst's consternation, considering the birds violent and aloof behavior. However, since then the two have grown quite close, with Murder showing her love by happily nipping Amethyst the least of anyone else.
Amethyst mostly has learned helpful magic--while she can boost her teammate's abilities, she also has learned magics for mental healing (a necessity to live in the Starwood Strand). She is proficient in spells that relieve anxiety and ward off madness.
"I couldn't ask for a better wife. She's so sweet and sensitive. We buy each other perfume every year for our anniversary!" |
"Amy? She's like a second mother to me. Her tea always helps me calm down." |
"Such a darling with the hatchlings! I always appreciate her help with the flowers crowns... the children get so rowdy if they wait too long." |
"Three eggs, this time," Starbound notes.
Starbound stood next to Amy, who was eagerly looking at the nest she laid just a few days ago with her husband. The literal fruits of their labor were starting to poke out of the ground--three little leaves, making almost a perfect circle with each other. It was the third nest to show signs of taking, and Amethyst and Champagne had been the third to mate. A good omen, she thought.
The clan had not seen hatchlings in a long time--not since FEMM was born, anyways. It had been a long, traumatic set of years, marked by war and death. The whole of the Viridian Labyrinth had been healing since the truce between Plague and Nature was called. Many were skittish about the idea of nesting again, especially after the slaughter of their last nests, but Amethyst was hopeful. She saw the act of having children again as her own act of healing.
She thoughtfully thumbed the dirt around the egg's fragile leaves, careful not to brush the tiny things. She hummed an aimless tune as she looked at them, her chest a heavy combination of anxiety, hope, love, and a touch of fear. She would do right by them, she knew, but it was hard not to worry.
"We will protect them." Starbound's voice startled Amy, causing her to look away from the sprouting eggs and at the other Skydancer. She was so slim, Amy thought. "I promise you that." The years had been hard on Starbound too. Who knew what the guilt did to her, on the inside...
"I know," Amethyst replied, putting a hand on her shoulder and squeezing gently. "I know you and Tsunami will keep them safe." Starbound, who's back had been stiff and straight, relaxed and slouched forward. Poor girl. She was trying too hard to be strong. "For what it's worth... what happened was not your fault. I hope you know that."
Starbound's antennae twitched, her vulnerability disappearing in an instant as she straightened up again, walking away without a word. I guess that wasn't the right thing to say.
She turned back to the nest, wishing that Champagne could have been there right now. He always seemed to know what to say.
