HISTORY
Camaraderie - or Rad, as he was quickly nicknamed - was born in the Hell’s Scales Alliance, the eighth child and only son of his parents Daredevil and Bliss. He had a happy childhood growing up with his older sisters Patience, Joy, Enthusiasm, Hope, Glee, Fortune, and Euphoria, who all greatly enjoyed playing with their excitable baby brother. All of his siblings would go on to become assassins working in the Coalition, but it was clear early on that such a path would be impossible for Rad - and not just because of his friendly nature. Rather than being gifted with a sly tongue and deft hands, Rad found himself positively brimming with magic, so much so that he could hardly control it. Sparks leapt from his fingers when he was excited, bursting into bright flame as he grew older. As delightful as this was at first, it did cause more than one unfortunate household fire, and his parents worried as Rad grew patches of shining golden scales - clearly marking him as not only a tiefling, but one with dragon blood. They confided in him that his father’s bloodline had included a gold dragon in the distant past, and that Rad must have inherited some of that ancestor’s power. While young Rad thought that this was quite thrilling, his parents urged him to be cautious. The fearsome Mardochaios clan hated tieflings enough already. A tiefling with draconic blood would truly incite their fury, should he ever cross their path. His parents did their best to mitigate Rad’s incendiary issues as he grew up, but they knew that there was only so much they could do to help him. What he needed was an education, from someone who truly understood magic and could help Rad master his own. So, they saved up, finally managing to accumulate enough gold between fire-related repairs to send Rad across the sea to the Coalition - and from there, to the (in)famous college Ocean’s Pointe. |
Though he was sad to leave his parents, Rad thrived there. He could so easily live up to the virtue he was named for, making friends left and right. And, for the first time, his uncontrolled magic wasn’t frowned upon - why, his classmates marveled at the wild displays of flame, just as he was fascinated by their portals and transmutations. He did eventually learn the control he and his parents had hoped for, though his magic still got away from him in moments of excitement. This eventually inspired his senior project - an adaptation of the spell Control Flame that did the reverse, creating fire that simply refused to be put out. He graduated with pride, happily wishing a classmate luck as they declared their own senior project (extinguishing the chunk of island they’d had to separate from the college proper after Rad’s own project). With his education, the clothes on his back, and little else, Rad decided he wanted to see the world. Many of his classmates had studied abroad, but he’d opted not to, hardly needing an exotic locale for his experiments and loathe to leave his bros behind. Now that he’d graduated, though, he thought it was time he struck out on his own to make new friends. He made his way from Ocean’s Pointe with little thought of final destination, simply wandering as the mood took him. While more than one village turned him away, leery of a tiefling (and one hailing from Ocean’s Pointe, no less), plenty were fascinated by the magic he could demonstrate or his easy friendliness. Eventually he stumbled across the city of Chrysocolla and decided to explore, but quickly he ran amok of some guards while showing off a few of his favorite fire tricks to some curious people in the street. Apparently there were ordinances against setting fires in the city… who knew? |
