First Meeting
Antinonsense made no effort to control the mirror who currently was eating hearty mouthfuls of dried fruit from the shredded openings in the side of a bag. She sat serene, watching, and greeted Sprig when he entered with a formal fin display. "Welcome!"He felt abruptly like a stranger in his own lair. "Clan leader." He acknowledged. "This is unexpected." "Apologies for the invasion, but I couldn't get the little one to stay outside. After that it was a challenge keeping little paws out of everything. This was the lesser evil of potential disasters." Her head fins flickered sincerity. "That'll be replaced." Sprig had a sinking feeling about the hatchling. He flicked his head in the direction of the still eating mirror. "One of Geyanna's? Did she finally have too many to handle?" Amusement flared her fins before she composed herself again. "No. This is your new companion. From a Lightning Clan." "What?" He'd had younger mates before, but never had to raise them. That would be awkward. Birch's leaving had been regretful, but not a surprise. He spent more time in books and herbs than in building relationships. He wasn't ready for a replacement. Maybe ever. "There's been a mistake." Antinonsense's fins flickered in a thoughtful manner. "Maybe, but it was with the best intent. A concerned third party thought you needed a friend. The pick was unconventional, but acceptable. I'll leave you two now. If he really doesn't work, we can talk again." Without further ado the fae leaped from her perch and was out past him. He. Not a mate then, really a companion. Sprig harumphed to himself but was relieved, took a deep breath, then turned to deal with the invader. The mirror, sensing the abrupt change in mood, looked around for the small brown fae, but that protector was gone.

Alone with the giant imperial the mirror abandoned the bag of fruit and backed against a shelf, teeth exposed, back end high, ready to pounce or fight. He squawked in surprise when a portion of dried meat hit the ground by his paws. A bowl of water followed in a tidier fashion. "Probably shouldn't feed you anything more dried, but it'll keep your teeth busy for a moment." Sprig said. "Drink that water. You'll need it." Sprig confiscated the fruit and turned to find what was left a new home. Splashing behind him alerted him to a new problem. The proffered water bowl was now up the walls, on the shelves, and all over the hatchling. Of course. Two hastily tossed towels joined the mess.
