"History repeats itself,"

Artemis hails from an ancient clan, ruled by many bloodlines throughout time. When he was born his blood was in power, though that was of little concern to the young wildclaw. He was more concerned about being unseen and unheard in a clan that often became loud and frightening very fast. His ability to hide was almost unrivaled. Almost.

It was on such an occasion that he met Eclipsa, already hiding in one of his quick go-to places under the stairs. He froze at first, but she slowly held her fore-claw to her mouth in the universal motion to "be quiet" and he wordlessly joined her there, near the peephole into the dining hall. They exchanged names when it was over, but it wasn't until her saw her glittering stone in the light that he realized who she was. Not too long ago, his uncle had become enamored with a coatl statue retrieved from the ocean. He believed her filled with life, but was dismissed as just another eccentric of the family. He'd gone missing recently; With the statue.

Eclipsa told him she was terrified of the violence in the clan, and had been hiding ever since it had been revealed to her. Artemis understood the fear and soon made himself just as scarce, bringing Eclipsa meals and teaching her to sew to pass the time.

It was in the wake of the clan leader's death that Artemis decided the time was right to bring Eclipsa forth to join the clan. Members of his royal family had been disappearing or becoming ill in rapid succession and the family was desperate for allies. Though Eclipsa was reluctant to join, this would allow her space and protection as well as food and formal training in writing and combat if she so wished. The family became quite fond of her, and eventually gave her the honorary title of being kin.

Artemis continued to stay with her at her request. As members of his family continued to inherit the throne and then meet an early end, they became worried that Artemis might be called upon to to do the same. Carefully they planned an escape; Planning a route through the secret tunnels they knew so well, squirreling away food that could keep and survival supplies, though neither knew much about travel.

It was peculiar how Artemis came to rule in spite of it all. Guards came to retrieve him from Eclipsa's quarters while the two were reading, dolled him up in the gear of a king and marched him out in front of the whole clan for a crowning ceremony. With the speed at which the clan members were cycling through corrupted leaders, there was no point in repeating the same pomp and circumstance that had been the clan's inauguration for centuries. As was tradition, Eclipsa was dragged up to the stage as well as the other remaining members of the family, as witness. Shocked with the sudden change in plans, Artemis stiffly ascended the stairs.

He blinked when he heard the faint whistle of moving air, and as he turned to address the noise all he saw was Eclipsa's back. The next sound he heard was the shattering of a crystal, and bright white-pink shards flew up to catch the light. He doesn't remember what happened next clearly; but he awoke in the same space on the staircase surrounded by the fighting that occurred the instant he fell to the ground. Apparently, he was thought dead and the clan had finally fought itself quiet. Not a soul moved in the destruction.

He mechanically retrieved Eclipsa and what he thought to be pieces of her stone. He walked for days before collapsing and being discovered by a Shenani Clan patrol, who brought him immediately to Abria the healer. He remembers overhearing that some of the crystal in-bedded in him could not be removed; It was that word that brought him to movement again, sorting through his things and placing pieces of the crystal he'd retrieved from the floor back into her chest. He noticed dismally that he did not find all the pieces, but within the day she was moving and speaking again. Eclipsa was not the same as he'd known her, and for a while he tried to restore her memory. It was her reaction to each detail of the old clan that made him realize that these memories, though they were hers, weren't the kind she'd want to have back. He eventually relented and renewed his determination to help Eclipsa create new, kinder experiences instead.

Artemis is not an outgoing dragon and at first was quite unpleasant in how he treated the clan members (Abria the healer in particular), but as time has passed he's come to see that it's nothing like his old clan. Dragons here are lazy, silly, and kind but not a threat. Though he quite loves Eclipsa he gives her plenty of space and she always finds her way back to him. When he isn't helping her with her stuffed animal hospital he's studying the many crystals of Shenani Clan's lair as an amateur geologist. He likes the quiet the job gives him and it also gives him access to plenty of materials in case Eclipsa ever gets hurt again.

Artemis takes a while to warm up to dragons, but when he does he's a loyal friend to have.
