B I O G R A P H Y
The skydancer had the privilege of being spoiled rotten at a young age, thanks in part to his abandonment by his original caretakers. The dragons that took him in when he was just a hatchling tried to make up for the earliest moments of his life feeding in to his every want, accidentally instilling in the young dragon this desire to be spoiled that carried on into his adult life. One cannot fault the acts of his adopted family, having wanted to make sure that young Claudios knew what good and loving dragons looked like. Still, this aspect of his upbringing had an effect on the young skydancer that had a habit of coming out in selfish ways.
While his adopted family and the clan he now belonged to tried hard to get the skydancer to feel safe and comfortable, the feeling of abandonment still haunted him as he grew through his adolescence. He would very rarely let others in, putting on a charade of being petty and self serving. For the most part, he was. Deep down however, even unbeknownst to Claudios, he truly did want to be loved. It was hidden under the weeks of neglect and abandonment he suffered through with his parents, the inability to really connect with anyone in his new home. His distrust stemmed from within him; a small voice underneath it all asking softly for someone to love him unconditionally. Deep down he wanted not only for someone to care for him, but for someone he too could care for.
Despite this need within him, Claudios never allowed anyone to grow close to him. He would find ways to put others off, whether it be terse body language or snappish remarks that made others take a step back. He let his spoiled nature bloom, knowing how much it drove others crazy when he refused to do something unless he got a benefit from it. Claudios never gave out any favors for free, always expecting repayment when he wanted something in return. The only thing he truly did for the benefit of others was to take up the role as matchmaker within the clan, helping couples find each other. That too he didn’t do for free, but he also didn’t do it to help himself. Claudios was truly amazing at figuring out which dragon would do well mated together. He could decipher a person’s personality after a short conversation (and short was how Claudios liked to keep it) along with a bit of distant observation. Then he knew who would be most compatible with who from what he saw, and after a push towards each other the couple was official. Despite people thinking he had an ugly personality - which he was quick to remind them all he was perhaps the most gorgeous dragon in the clan - they only trusted Claudios when it came to (paid) relationship advice and matchmaking. Though it seemed Claudios couldn’t have predicted his own match.
It wasn’t until Claudios was nearing his adulthood that he met the other skydancer, Cyan. At first, Claudios didn’t know what to make of him. He had a tendency of being kind and gentle even when he didn’t need to nor the recipient deserved it. It made Claudios wary, as if waiting for the second claw to drop and reveal the other skydancer as the demented, sadistic creature he truly was in his mind. At night, Claudios would lay awake trying to understand the other skydancer. How could someone be so nice for no reason? It plagued him, and made him suspicious of Cyan. And yet, the other skydancer persisted. He would greet and smile sweetly at Claudios, asking if he could be of any help for the other only to be rebuffed at every turn. It didn’t stop him however, and eventually, Claudios snapped at him.
“Why do you insist on being so nice to me?!” he snapped. Cyan tilted his head a little, a confused look across his face. Cyan was blind, his eyes a milky soft color similar to an ice flight’s member.
“Is it wrong to do such things?” Cyan responded. Claudios glared at him, at a loss for words. “Do good people have to secretly be bad, just because you can’t understand them?”
Cyan’s words caught Claudios off guard. All of his life he had lived with the belief that no one was truly good even when he saw nothing but goodness. Something switched in Claudios in that moment, and for once he didn’t berate Cyan further but simply walked away. He thought that was the end of it, but Cyan had nevertheless persisted.
He’d often ask if he could accompany Claudios anywhere, even if it was to simply walk in silence. Sometimes they would spend a sparse moment together, or share a meal. For the most part Claudios remained quiet, though would respond here and there on occasion. Cyan didn’t talk on and on however, something Claudios was at least thankful for.
“You look particularly lovely today.” Cyan hummed one morning. Claudios blinked at him.
“You don’t know what I look like.” he responded. Cyan just smiled, then laughed a little. Claudios did too.
It went on like this, Cyan slowly chipping away at Claudios’ walls with soft words and the purest innocence that the skydancer had ever seen. He was truly shocked by just how good Cyan was, how gentle and genuine he could be. It softened Claudios’ closed off heart, feeding into that desire to be cared about and loved. Before he knew it, Claudios was in love. He never thought he could care about another more than himself, and yet Cyan had proven he was able to.
