Right now, the light at the end of his mental tunnel showed only more tunnel.

Role

The Manor has plenty of mechanical digging machines that work much faster and more efficiently than a dragon would at digging tunnels. However, Al is a cheapskate, and unlike machinery which requires constant upkeep and fuel, Gellert seems to sustain himself on the pure joy of being underground. His hoard of useless junk and pretty rocks he finds while excavating keeps him motivated, while the priceless fossils and gemstones he also finds keep him in Hypatia's good books. Gellert's recently been learning about workplace safety - it horrifies him that some dragons can't dig themselves out of a tunnel collapse and thus he now insists on safety drills as often as he can get away with.

Personality

Others might find the repetitiveness of his job tedious, but Gellert genuinely enjoys mindless work. He likes the reassurance that since a particular method has worked a hundred times before, then it will work a hundred times again. Imagining new ways to approach a task is stressful for Gellert, and he minimises the need for this by sticking to the tried and true when it comes to dangerous activities. When he feels the need to roll the proverbial dice, Gellert will change his daily travel route by perhaps a whole ten feet.

Background

Gellert was raised in your average Ridgeback family. Growing up in tunnels, borrowing everything from salt to birth certificates from your neighbours, fish for every meal, the usual. He was never particularly rebellious as a hatchling, and was considered the 'golden child' by his parents. Of course, this means he is the source of much irritation for his siblings and cousins who have to endure their parent's endless nagging about 'why can't you be more like Gellert' and 'why do you need money, just steal stuff'.

Relationships

What on Sornieth is someone with his meals planned out a week in advance doing with a demon-summoning teleporter, the clan has often wondered. Actually, Paisley's erratic seeming habits are actually completely predictable for someone who knows astrology, which Gellert of course does. Gellert himself is easy to get along with, and has the reputation of being the easiest dragon in the clan to find due to his exacting schedule (despite the fact that he spends 90% of his time below ground). He is good friends with Ginkgo, and their reminiscing about the Southern Icefields nearly always devolves into bickering about who had the most deprived childhood.
