Deep under the Great Hall, past the raging fires of the forge, just past the nursery, lies the library, and it is here that one handsome young dragon spends most of his time.

Clarence was brought to the clan when he was just a few weeks old and has no memory of his birth clan. He grew up with MFF, whom he considers his sister, and was initially trained to become one of the clan’s warriors. However, he soon realized that fighting wasn’t the right thing for him - he was much more interested in stories and books, and eventually stopped his training.

His biggest dream was to create a library for the clan, where they could gather knowledge, and after much discussion with Barachiel, he got permission to build it. It was decided to construct it near the forge, where it would be warm and dry, thus preventing mold. The walls of the library are thick and lined with tapestries to absorb as much noise as they can - thus, despite its vicinity to the forge, it is a mostly quiet place, perfect for those who seek solitude or rest from the loud and bustling life of the clan.

However, work on the library is not done - it might never be. It is always expanding, always growing, just like the clan it belongs to. Dragons and beastclan allies are always welcome to stock up the shelves with their own manuscripts and books (though the quality of these can sometimes be … subpar, to say the least), and there are plans to build a hatchling’s corner (much to Clarence’s dismay). With the nursery close by, parents and caregivers will often visit the library to read stories to the clan’s youngest members, so dedicating a special corner just for them would be “a very nice thing to do” (according to Isis).

While he usually prefers to spend his time in solitude, he welcomes visitors as long as they behave, and won’t shy away from a good, long chat. Frequent guests (besides his best friend Mimas and his sister) are Banana (whose collection of books about the supernatural is ever growing (and probably haunted, at least partially)), Leandra (who likes to spend her time studying black magic, which he considers quite weird and scary), Morpheus (to research new methods for curing his patients), Loki (he just likes the quietness of the place, though he will pick up a book every now and then), Claudius (researching astronomy), Mimas’ student Riannoc (to study magic, but he doesn’t seem very successful at it), the clan’s scientists (their research takes up a huge chunk of the library) and, surprisingly, Barachiel.

But not all dragons who come here do so for the luxury of solitude or to read books - Clarence is quite popular among the clan’s females (and certain males) because of his good looks. His deep, rumbling voice “could make anyone’s knees weak” (at least according to Polly), and his usually calm and gentle demeanor “makes any girl’s heart melt” (again, Polly’s words). Thus, ever so often, he has to deal with a pushy dragon, most of the time too young for his taste, and calmly inform them that no, although he feels flattered, he will not go out with them, and besides, the library really isn’t the right place to ask him out in the first place.

Even if the admirer is his age, he usually declines, although he did have a few affairs here and there. The only dragon he has eyes for is Edrea, the clan’s healer - something that his peers think quite strange, as they regard her as rather unsightly and eerie. Clarence is one of the few dragons who have seen Edrea’s face (he thinks it rather cute), and he is entranced by her strength and knowledge. None of his advances have worked yet, however - Edrea seems to be quite intimidated by him and seems to avoid him whenever possible.

"Despite giving up his career as warrior, Clarence comes in handy in case of an emergency. Most of the tunnels in this lair are intentionally built to be narrow so that they can be easily blocked off by our biggest dragons. In case of an attack, he and Sunchaser will block off the tunnel that leads to the forge and the nursery, giving Aulon, Andromeda and Pollux time to evacuate everyone on the lower floors through the emergency exit that is hidden behind the library."

"Europa will sometimes visit Clarence, but because she is blind, she's not able to read any of the books he has in his library! But being the sweetheart that he is, he will sit down in a quiet corner with her and read her stories. It's quite sweet."
