Named and modeled after my favourite legendary pokemon! Giratina has been a fave since the release of Platinum, and fell in love with the butter-coloured shiny too (yellow and blue go quite nice together tbh). I have a shiny Origin Forme Giri I nicknamed Butterdragon that was in Y. I hunted a shiny Giratina in Omega Ruby without the Shiny Charm and got it in 17mins, the fastest shiny I've ever caught! Giratina (Japanese: ギラティナ Giratina) is a dual-type Ghost/Dragon Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation IV. While it is not known to evolve to or from any other Pokémon, it has a second forme activated by giving Giratina a Griseous Orb to hold, or while it is in its home, the Distortion World. Its original forme, Altered Forme, will then become Origin Forme. Giratina's Origin Forme was officially revealed in early February 2008. In Origin Forme, Giratina is the game mascot of Pokémon Platinum. Along with Dialga and Palkia, it is a member of the creation trio of Sinnoh, representing antimatter. DEX ENTRIES Diamond/Pearl/BD & SP: A Pokémon that is said to live in a world on the reverse side of ours. It appears in an ancient cemetery. Platinum, Black/White/BW2, Y, Alpha Sapphire: It was banished for its violence. It silently gazed upon the old world from the Distortion World. HeartGold/SoulSilver, X, OmegaRuby: This Pokémon is said to live in a world on the reverse side of ours, where common knowledge is distorted and strange. Legends Arceus: There is one Hisuian verse that tells of a powerful light creating a deep shadow. I imagine that this deep shadow is Giratina. Giratina loses its legs upon changing into this Origin form. I believe this Pokémon must hail from a world where the heavens and the earth are as one, though I have no way of proving it.

Giratina may be based on Seta, a giant centipede, from the Japanese fairytale, "My Lord Bag of Rice", which was said to prey on dragon hatchlings and be as large as a mountain. Giratina's Altered Forme is also possibly based on a basilisk, and its Origin Forme may be based on a serpent. In its Altered Forme, Giratina's wings may be based on a bat's, and its body has an insect-like, six-legged feature, but its posture is similar to a sauropod.

Its Origin Forme has a body similar to a serpent, while the six protrusions on its body may be based on a scorpion's stinger or spider legs. This Forme also shares physical traits with the Amphithere, a European dragon-like creature with wings but no legs.

In interviews Junichi Masuda and Takeshi Kawachimaru did with G4, they said that Giratina and the Distortion World were created to be personifications of antimatter. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, Cynthia also states this.

Giratina may be a combination of girasol (a type of red opal), guillotine, or girare (Italian for to wander around); and プラチナ purachina (Japanese for platinum).

These gifs are from Pokemon Platinum! I never got to play the game myself, but a friend's younger brother let me play through this part and the Distortion World bit when I was over one day.
