The Cinder Cone Queen
~Beyond the Demesne~
When Aurelia hatched, the Pele was just beginning to oversee the excavation of the Demesne's lair in Hornfel Heights. As the Snapper grew up and her nomadic clan traveled back into their ancestral lands in Dragonhome, she heard tales of the Demesne's growth. Iinspired by Pele's apparent success and somewhat at odds with her elders' strict ideals, Aurelia determined to someday leave her mark on the world by establishing her own clan. It was a major undertaking, but one Aurelia enthusiastically threw herself into when she grew old enough to strike out from the clan of her hatching. A few of her peers, young and bold and with their heads full of Aurelia's dreams, followed the charismatic Snapper on her quest.
As she searched for a place to settle down and create her own lair, somewhere she could order things as she saw fit, Aurelia's band grew in number as she encountered other like-minded dragons. It was a long journey, one that ultimately ended with the discovery of a long-extinct field of small cinder cones to the north of the Demesne. In the crater and lava tubes of the largest of these ancient volcanoes Aurelia decided to establish her lair, and she and her dragons set about shaping it to fit their needs and desires. In time, her small clan grew in size, although it is certainly no rival to Pele's clan.
Aurelia is a bold and charismatic leader, capable of coming up with grand speeches and weaving her ideas into words spontaneously. She never hesitates to speak her mind and loves a good, fierce debate, but is also able to quickly admit to being wrong and changing her mind when presented with solid evidence. When she gets an idea, she strives to reach it tirelessly until it has become a reality. Her small clan is friendly to newcomers, but not as zealously hospitable as Pele's. The Cinder Cone Clan is somewhat out of the way of most trade routes, but manages to sustain itself through its wealth of volcanic scoria and the valuable crystals that the volcano's magma chamber lifted up from the depths of the earth in aeons past. Like the dragons under her care, Aurelia spends much of her time defending her borders against monsters, overseeing excavations, and mining their subterranean quarries.
When her clan was young, Aurelia requested the assistance of the Diabase Demesne in fortifying her lair in exchange for mining rights in other parts of the cinder cone field. One of the dragons who answered her request was Svarog, the blacksmith of the Demesne and a widower, there to help construct supports and train Aurelia's blacksmiths. Aurelia was quite taken by his no-nonsense attitude and strong convictions- it was love at first argument. Svarog was much slower to reciprocate, for a number of reasons (not the least of them the memory of Myrrh), but in time the two became the most argumentative happy couple in the region. It's an odd arrangement, to be sure, as Aurelia obviously can't leave her clan and Svarog's smithy is entrenched in the Demesne, but they seem to think it's working, so everyone else just accepts it.
