"Actually, the clouds covering the stars right now don't bother me... It means I have time to read the mythology, not all this clinical study."

Gwydion was once the mate to Hecate, the Arcane flight representative. His relationship with her was calm and somewhat distant; both were largely focused on their studies and work. Still, Gwydion mourned her death greatly.
Sangria rather inserted herself into his life at that point. She made herself busy organizing Hecate's old notes and books, spending hours studying and reading in Gwydion's room. The company helped to stabilize his mood. He eventually plucked up the courage to talk to her, and the two quickly established a deep friendship which bloomed into love over time.
Spending time with Sangria helped Gwydion to realize his need for physical closeness in relationships. Over time, he was able to open up about his gender to her, where he hadn't been able to with anyone else, including Hecate.
It was the night after Hecate's funeral that the door to the study creaked open. Gwydion didn't have the energy to lift his head from where he lay, but his eyes followed the figure who entered. Gwydion recognized her as Confetti's sister, but he couldn't remember her name. It was some kind of drink, wasn't it? He couldn't bring himself to care, not until she started rummaging in Hecate's books. Then, he sat up. "What do you think you're doing?" caught in his throat as she caught his stare and held it. Her eyes were Arcane, electrically so, but even as bright as they were they held a strange calm. After a few heartbeats, Gwydion set his head on the floor again. He watched as she started organizing the books into neat stacks, and then as she started taking them to the bookshelves. He fell asleep somewhere along the way.
The next morning, she was still there, shuffling papers. She did leave eventually though, and Gwydion somehow felt an even worse pang of desolation in his chest. Of course. She'd come to organize Hecate's things, that was all. Why should he miss her presence? There were things to do now that his mate was gone.
But the spiral returned with food from her brother's bakery. She kept one plate to herself and placed the other in front of Gwydion without a word. A little wave of relief washed over him, but he still couldn't muster up any sort of appetite. That evening, his new companion took the plate and replaced it with a different one from dinner. She had moved on to organizing the bookshelves now.
The next day, the spiral finished the bookshelves, and the day after that she began sorting through all the telescope pieces. The day after, she started looking through the many sheaves of parchment covered in Hecate's notes, her brow screwed up in concentration--and probably confusion. Finally, finally, Gwydion stood and made his way over to her, legs shaking from lack of use.
"Her handwriting was awful, wasn't it?" he said, and the joke came out utterly flat. Sangria nodded slowly, letting the parchment go as he slid it across the table to himself. "This one was about the color refraction around stars in the southeast part of the sky. It goes with that chart." He nodded to one of the scrolls among the heaps of notes."
They went like that for some time, talking little except for Gwydion's explanations. When she brought food this time, the spiral pushed it more fervently into his paws. "Confetti baked ground orchid beetles in the rolls. It's a trick he uses to get Jakam and Amdiffyn to eat more protein. At least eat one."
Sheepishly, Gwydion swallowed a few bites of food under the spirals stern gaze. Finally she nodded approvingly and returned to her sorting.
"You can take a break to eat, too," he said. "Hecate's work isn't going anywhere."
