Info on Naomi here. It’s in my blood. When the light from the sun fades and moonlight floods the clan-grounds, I stand under the tree by the drinking pond, staring at my own reflection, skewed across the water. Sometimes, I am greeted there, by another soft-spoken Pearlcatcher. Adelaide. Born of lightning. I am the only one who knows her secrets and she is the only one who knows mine. Glitchy, she calls me. How . . . endearing. But I only let my feelings catch up to me for a single moment before I’m whisked away from reality once again. I’m not sure where I go when I pass between the state of consciousness and what I have dubbed “The Void.” I always wake up in the same spot - I have missed nothing. I guess that’s a plus. I wish I understood what I saw. Where I had been and who I had met when I travelled between worlds, all in the fraction of a second - but when I come to, the details are always too blurry to make out. I meet thousands of dragons in the space between each millisecond - a lifetime in the blink of an eye. However, some things never leave me. The eternal voices of the exalted ring in my ears. Some are happy with their state. Others . . are not. The scientist has been trying to understand what's wrong with me and find a way to fix me - or so they say. They run tests on me day after day, and although I have doubts about the tests they conduct, I don't want to object. I fear the scientist; for I, too, know what they have done. But I shall never tell them about the real reason I am like this. I won't let them know about her. . . . The screaming gets louder at night. They won’t let me forget. She is in my blood. |
