They went back to school, working for nearly a year. Both excelling in their studies and abilities. Soon enough, field internships were in order. Zender had always been up for adventure, one that Amaryllis had gained from him as they bonded and worked. They had managed to get onto a very big exploration/scientific mission to Sornieth. The mission was to see if there was anything they could learn medically from the world in the form of new medical plants to possibly make cheaper medicines for the lower class of Loonrian. They had been loaded onto the ship the huge research vessel. Quickly settling into their rooms as they waited to be whisked off to their new adventure. Amaryllis and Zender were bonded deeply, her love for her partner shown in every way imaginable. They worked as one, able to perform some of the more complex procedures with ease. But good things in Cathkarta never last long it seems. As they landed on Sornieth somewhere on the Southern Icefield. They did not know someone was waiting for them. While many dragon clans had learned to hide from the human ships, beast clans fought against them. They never stood a chance. All seemed normal, as they began to offload their gear and get ready to start scouting out to the different parts of the continent. As Amaryllis and Zender began to haul some of the portable buildings out to set up they were attacked by the Ice Field beast clans. They came in masses, Amaryllis had no combat training as they began to tear into her and Zender. Her will to keep him safe drove her as they began to destroy the ship and crew. Ripping apart other humans as Amaryllis kept Zender close to her body. But as others fell, more of the beast clans began to focus on her. She was getting weaker, as she felt Zender's pain along with her own. There was simply too many of them. They got him away from her. Once they had him they left her alone as she fell to her knees in a broken silence. She watched and felt as he died. Hearing his screams. Yet, as soon as it started it was over. She drug herself to his body, before pulling him back under the remains of their ship for shelter as a blizzard began to come in. She held him close. In her mind calling for him knowing she would never hear his laugh or his thoughts ever again. She was alone out there. Everything she had ever known was gone. She could hear the movement of the beastclans. They were out there watching her, maybe waiting to see if she died. Who knew, all she knew was her heart and body hurt more than it ever had. She had lost her partner, to her, her world. |

It did not take long for the sounds of feet to dwindle down to two sets. Two shapes approached the metal beast without caution, as if they knew nothing would attack them. Amaryllis feared trying to get their attention but it was too late as an odd glowing creature appears in her vision. The creature flew to the two shapes and they made their way to her. Slowly it was clear they were both dragons of the Skydancer breed but much larger than those on Loonrian. The male approaches after gesturing to his partner to remain afar. Amaryllis crouches over Zender's body, trying her best to look intimidating. A ghostly chuckle comes from the male, "My dear there is no need to fear me." He folds back his hood, gazing down at the poor human. He gives the body a curious sniff and picks his way closer till Amaryllis blocks his way. She does not know his intent. He gazes into her eyes and smiles, "I can hear him my dear, Zender he calls himself. What a tragedy to feel so lost. Come, my mate will help you carry him." The female came as soon as he gestures to her. She looks so much worse than him but deftly picks up the fragile body. "My name Gwennor and that is Phantom. We can help you..both." She says, her words oddly echoing from under her mask, "One of our dwellings is not far, do you have the strength to get there?" Amaryllis stood up shakily, she is so cold. Gwennor gives her a small look over before following after Phantom with her in tow. The blizzard parted for them, the snow barely up to their heels. It was strange to see for Amaryllis, it looks as if Phantom was commanding the storm to yield to them. Before she could even form the mere thought to question it a cave melts into view. The party of three take refuge inside. Gwennor places Zender's body upon an alter and goes to Amaryllis to tend to her wounds. Phantom begins to work on the human under the Imperial's wary gaze. He drew markings and runes upon his body. "You both share a tight, inseparable bond that transcends species. I can not save his current body as it is too damaged however I can give him new life. All I need is something small from you. A bone will suffice." Amaryllis looks alarmed and balked in shock as she finally took in the cave as a whole. Bones and cultish items litter the entirety of the cave. It terrified her, what had she walked into?! Gwennor reaches out and takes her face in her warm hands. "Steady child, we help dragons. Phantom's work is strange but it does what is necessary. Every trinket here is a successful deal. That finger bone holds a deadly disease he took from a dragon, we heal. The bone he asks for is here." She points to a spot in the Imperial's wing. "It does not serve a purpose but will aid in his work for your friend." Amaryllis stares at the spot, flexing her wing. She was right, the bone was never used even in flight. Shakily she nods and extends the limb. Phantom was precise and clean as he removed the thin bone, using his ice magic to numb her faster than any potion. He stitches her up and lets Gwennor tend to her further while he begins his ritual. Gwennor backs Amaryllis from the cave once the ritual started. She sat with her and comforted her as the shock from the battle never subsided yet. Phantom strode out after there was a flash of light from inside the cave. "Success! We will take you to the clan he will be reborn in." They traveled for almost an hour, the blizzard long subsiding as trees broke the endless ice. Phantom and Gwennor leads the small Imperial into the trees, carefully guiding her over rocks and shrubs. Soon though the trees parted and reveals a hidden glade bathed in sunlight. Amaryllis stared in awe and fear as dragons turn to gaze at her. A stout female dragon pads over to the three, "Greetings I am Jaden, leader of this clan. What brings you here? Nightingale didn't foresee a visitor.." Gwennor spoke up first, "She came from the metal birds. Her clan was destroyed by Beastclans and she is alone." She recapped what had happened to Jaden who seems unsurprised by Phantom's abilities. "Funny you mention it, one of our harpies just laid an egg. If you believe this to be your friend you may have it." Months have passed since Amaryllis had been brought to the clan by the ghostly pair of Dancers. She had tended to the egg offered to her and sure enough a tiny male harpy popped out of the shell. The connection was immediate, Zender was indeed reborn! Due to Phantom's magic he grew fast, already almost fully grown. Their bond only grew stronger, Zender spoke for her as she learned to communicate with draconian sign language from Artemis. She has learned much and taught just as much. Taken under Theia's wing she taught the Guardian many things about medical field that one can't self teach. Amaryllis found herself becoming the clan's lead doctor, for she and Zender have the most knowledge about the practice. However dragons on Sornieth are different than those bred back on Loonrian. The pair still look for guidance from their elders with every new question they come across. |
