Biography
Sometimes known as Sharptongue among those who would like to tease her, Helene chose to replace her hatchling name with something a little more dignified. After all, many kept thinking she got her name from saying something rude, and nothing could be further from the truth! Helene earned the name Sharptongue by wandering through the gardens in the terraces above Oakrest, sampling all manner of plants and herbs unsupervised. She learned the hard way that there is a safe way and an unsafe way to eat stinging nettles, and she had chosen the latter.
She has always been fascinated by flavors, the bolder the better! As such, she has taken it upon herself to work with Bergamot in the gardens, seeking uses for indigenous species and flavor blends to compliment them. When she is not in her pantries with her spice mills, she is often found wandering the same gardens that pricked her tongue when she was small.
Helene's spices are the delight of Oakrest's cooks. Many have come looking for hot peppers to spice their cakes, deep earthy thymes to flavor their meats, and subtle peppermints for teas to soothe ailing stomachs. Her reputation for quality in flavor and grind is above that of most imported spices, though the same is said of her pricing. She knows how to harvest bay leaves and basil alike, and how to keep it safe for transport and later use, and many of her customers find her wares completely worth the price.
Many may find her rugged sense of work ethic, honesty, integrity, and determination to be odd for an ice dragon, but Helene is quick to remind them that though she was born with frost in her fingers, she has never been further than Dragonhome's southern border. She just doesn't see the point. Hers was one of thirteen eggs rescued from a harpy sacrifice to Talona, and so she hatched and grew in Oakrest.
An up-front sort of dragon, she is happy to help others if she may, though also quick to point out if she is unable to do so. She doesn't enjoy intrigue of any kind, and drama makes her a bit antsy. Still, she is a true friend to those who would have her, and loyal to those who have earned her trust.
She has a deep affection for little jars, especially those with stoppers and lids. She is sometimes found browsing the tables and stalls of the Citadel's Artisan Walk, looking for just one more to add to her collection. She uses them to keep seeds, her own personal spice mixes, and a few other odds and ends. If the piece is a little unique in some way, she is all the more likely to purchase it.
