Bloodborne awoke from what felt like a long slumber. His body was stiff and frozen, buried under the arctic snow. He couldn't remember anything, but he knew something was different. Something was wrong. He could smell the foul, iron scent of blood, and he could hear the fierce howling of the frozen wind. Everything was pitch black. After shaking off the snow that nearly covered him, Bloodborne fumbled around in the darkness, finding nothing but coldness all around him. After a while, he realized that it couldn't be this dark. He was blind... despite his disability, he decided to leave the area that he was in, using his sensitive whiskers to guide him through the snow.
After traveling what felt like an eternity, a sudden flap and a gust of air alerted him to another dragon flying nearby. On high alert, Boodborne turned to face the direction that the sound was coming from, ready to fight if he needed to. He heard the dull thud as the dragon landed in front of him, the scraping of the stranger's claws against the ice. "What are you?" a deep voice asked. He thought for a moment, not knowing how to respond to the question. He didn't even know what he was exactly. He had no heartbeat, he needed no food, and he wasn't even sure that he was alive. "Perhaps I am a dragon, just like you?" He responded, uncertainty in his voice. The other dragon was quite for a while, scratching the ice with his claws as he thought. "You appear lost. There is a clan nearby, and perhaps they can help you." The stranger said. Although Bloodborne was wary of the other dragon, he reluctantly decided to follow him, deciding that if the dragon wanted to harm him, he could have already done so.
The dragon lead Bloodborne to the clan, much to the dismay of some of the other dragons. His bloody appearance and large size terrified the hatchlings, who ran to their mothers in fear. Some of the older dragons feared him as well, thinking that he was a bad omen, cursed by some unknown force. There was a fierce debate on whether he could stay or not. Eventually, the clan doctor showed up. The doctor agreed to let Bloodborne stay with him, as he was curious about his "condition" and wanted to help. The clan leaders reluctantly agreed to let him stay. Soon after arriving at the clan, Bloodborne's memories started to return to him, although they where very vague and hazy. He still could not remember what happened to him in his final days though, no matter how hard he tried. The kind doctor went from clan to clan, speaking with the other doctors to figure out what his patient was. The mystery was solved when he heard of a particular type of dragons called the cold ones.

The history of The Cold Ones, or simply “Nuqqatilli Ataaseq”, as they are known to the oldest clans of the Tundra, have been around for a long time. Perhaps even as long as The Second Age itself. Another source claims they arouse with the Shade in the Third Age. Some Sources go as far as to say they’re related to the uprising of the Original Beast clans! Regardless, their history is unknown, buried deep within the snow The Icewarden has coated his kingdom with. Likewise. The exact way they are brought into the world has been lost to time.

Regardless of when they first came into being, it is how this subspecies is formed that dragonfolk have remembered. These subspecies is found at scenes of horrors and violence. Perhaps the slaughtering of a nesting mother before the consumption her young children will host them? Or the massacre of an entire clan, their blood soaking into the snow below their cooling bodies will spring forth this subspecies. Even the The Fortress of Ends is suspect, with the bloodstains of prisoners past and current mixing into the ground to haunt the prison forever more. Regardless of reason or rhyme, They are creatures of death and snow, living golems of crimes committed against them. Their original coloration is lost when they died, replaced with the snow their souls and blood soaked into. Perhaps they are even being blessed by The Icewarden, who willed them to live on in his image after their horrific demise? Maybe the Plaguemother has her hands in this, eager to claim the Southern Icefields as her own with these deceased dragon as her warriors. Is it possible the Arcanist is to fault, using this subspecies as one of his little experiments? Maybe they are summoned by an separate entity for reasons unknown.

With their sight lost to them when they died, or upon maturation should they be the rare few born into the sub breed, this subspecies has learned to be careful with strangers. For the dragon that was not wary was the dragon that lost their loot, their food, and their shelter. This breed has also learned loyalty, for to have a clan they can trust, a clan to look out for them when they can no longer see for themselves, is truly the clan this dragon seeks among all others. Perhaps you and your clan can offer to take this one home with you?
