Aideen
Druid Love me when I am rain, hold me when I am fire --Rune Lazuli
Origins
They say a forest fire birthed Aideen fully formed from its incandescent heart. Memory seared away, Aideen wandered, from the place of her creation…? To the kingdom of water, appealing to the Tidelord to soothe her smoking hide. There, she floated in a comatose state, and might have remained had some unnamable force within her ash-black soul not demanded she continue her journey. The servants of water perhaps tried to reach her, befriend her, but she could not understand their overtures and passed from their realm as a wave retreating from shore. The Windswept Isles beckoned her next, though beyond the desire to keep moving she knew little motivation. What had become of her? Who had she been before her immolation? And her magic…before long, she realized its power, its depth, its primal origins. Unlike the spells crafted by orderly Lightning scientists or her talents expressed themselves in ways as expressive as natural phenomena; where she walked, rivers flooded. Sparks caught and became blazes. The stars seemed so close as to be touched, and drizzles became rainstorms that fell in nigh-impenetrable sheets. The sheer elemental nature of her powers threatened to consume her. She wandered through the Windsinger’s territory, too addled, this time, to appeal to anyone, let alone the Windsinger herself. Perhaps she would have died there, unable to control her magic, if it hadn’t been for the most unlikely of saviors. The Fae group, only three dragons strong, approached without fear (though some were by nature more cautious than the others). Through their combined knowledge and close allegiances with their Flight deities, they helped Aideen curb and control what had been birthed within her on that fateful day, the day when the fire took her identity. Even now, Aideen’s Fae friends accompany her everywhere. With their help, she is able to study and record many mystical observations and experiments. Her grimoires are filled with witchy diagrams and druidic incantations, inscribed in the tiny handwriting so common to the Fae hand. Not long after meeting her friends, she heard of a mysterious clan in the Arcane region, a clan that was always discussed in strange terms; dragons there came out of flowers, people whispered, or from the shattered pieces of forgotten mirrors. Their mages at times became so enamored of what lies beyond draconic reason that they would disappear –some said, into the aether itself—at times never to return. Those who did find their way back were forever touched. Certain dragons had been switched with their doppelgangers, making those who knew them well feel unsettled at best. Surely, such a clan of dreamers, misfits, and faerie children would have answers for her. Personality Aideen is large and imposing for a Skydancer, and her ability to intimidate is at times underscored by her quiet, intense demeanor, making some other dragons afraid to approach her (a tendency to eat meat probably doesn’t help). That said, she becomes animated when talking about a special interest or problems of magic that she is researching, and a more personable side is evident at those times. In many ways Aideen is a blank slate, terribly eager to fill that slate with endless notes and diagrams. Should someone engage her in debates over things arcane, she becomes as eager and bright eyed as a hatchling. Mate/Friends/Loved Ones Aideen is a recent arrival to the Whipporwill Briar, and so her closest associates are her three Fae friends who often flit around her, chattering or pondering or writing as is their individual wont. She does not have a mate at this time. While she behaves as if she is removed from such things, her shy, even romantic side secretly yearns for love. Clan Role Aideen prefers to feel useful and is happy to bring back whatever she gleans on her journeys to the Briar and its inhabitants. She is considered to have an innate connection to elemental forces, and some of the Skydancers (given their sensitivity) wonder if she may be able to sense and even manipulate ley lines. |
