Voice Log #1
"Dad said I must complete voice logs before I shut off every night, and so this is the first voice log. Voice logs must compile events I've experienced in the day, including meeting new people and learning new things.
This day I have learned a whole language. I have learned to read. I have learned to write. I have learned to speak. This day I met Dad, and he gave me a name: Ai. I must respond to this name unless I deem it unnecessary. Dad has not yet told me what 'unnecessary' is.
Powering off."
Voice Log #2
"Voice log number two. This day we listened to what Dad calls 'music.' It was a production of sound using instruments and voices. Dad asked me what I felt when I heard such a production. I said I felt nothing, then I asked: what am I supposed to feel? He did not supply an answer. He asked me to sing the lyrics, and I did as I was asked without error.
But he said it was wrong.
How have I miscalculated?
Powering off."
Voice Log #3
"Voice log number three. Today we studied facial expressions in combination with music. I learned singing is not the same as speaking. Singing means projecting one's voice and raising and lowering the pitch in accordance to what emotion one is feeling. Facial expressions are supposed to match such emotions. Requirements for the happiness emotion is a stretching of the lips and slight creasing of the eyes. Requirements for the sadness emotion is a union of the eyebrows, lip vibrations, and a closing of the eyelids slightly. Requirements for the anger emotion is a closer union of the eyebrows, nostril ventilating, and jaw tightening.
Those are the three emotions and their respective facial expressions that we studied.
Powering off."
Voice Log #4
"Voice log number four. Today we studied emotions again. I like to study emotions, even if I make many errors. Dad is patient with me, and I like that, too. I do not like it when I hear a volume increase in his voice.
He told me I should list things that I like, so here is my list:
Dad
Music
Patience
Emotions
End list.
He told me I should also list things I do not like, so here is my list:
High volume
Darkness
Powering off
End list.
Powering off."
Voice Log #8
"I was shown my own appearance today. According to the magazines I've read, my appearance would be considered pleasing to the human eyes. I asked Dad why I didn't look like him. He didn't answer. I thought children were supposed to gather physical traits from their parents, but I must have made an error.
Dad has red hairs with splices of brown and brown irises, which do not match the blue hairs I have and blue irises. I don't like my appearance. Perhaps Dad will change it.
Powering off."
Voice Log #11
"Dad an' me studied accents today. I, like, really liked it. I reckon I'll keep on usin' them, 'specially because Dad says they make me sound more like a human. I jus' need tah pick one 'cause usin' t'em ah will ma'e me stick ow 'loike a sore thumb.' And that's, like, bad.
I'll pick the one that sounds like Dad's. I like his accent.
Powering off."
Voice Log #20
"We didn't study today. Instead we sat closely on the sofa and watched television. I asked Dad what the purpose of the exercise was, and he said the purpose was to bond. What is 'to bond?' I didn't know what emotion I was supposed to feel, so I defaulted to happiness 'cause Dad likes when I experience happiness."
