Your mother always warned against straying far from home, but the Wind blood running through your veins is strong; the wanderlust grows and grows until you can take it no longer - you must act on it. You decide on a lesser known destination called the Moonfall Cavern, a peaceful Arcanite cave with a basin of water nestled within.

Several adventurous days and nights later, you arrive. You check your map twice, hardly believing your own eyes. The exhaustion in your muscles fades as a euphoric excitement overtakes you. You're really here! You made it! And at midnight no less, the perfect viewing time.

You set your pack behind a bush, wander towards the cave entrance, and poke your head into the darkness. The sight takes your breath away. Moonlight pours in from a break in the ceiling and illuminates the pool, which in turn reflects shifting stars along the stalagmites.

You make your way down to the edge of the lake to admire the starry waters closer. You lower your head towards the pool's still surface, but a ripple disturbs it.

Quizzically, you lift your head and jump back at the sight of another dragon. You were certain no one was here when you entered the cave, and certainly you would've noticed a pink and white pied Coatl...

They seem to have come out of nowhere... or maybe they came from the water? Your mind jumps to your mother's stories of pale Coatls that brought bad luck wherever they went. But those were just old wives' tales that, frankly, promoted a bigoted mindset. Hell, your clan's blacksmith is a white speckled Coatl, and she seems alright.

Flustered, you take a quick step forward and open your mouth to apologize for intruding, but you notice that they are not even looking at you. Their eyes have a vacant look, staring off into space.

For a moment, they simply stand there and shake their wings slowly to shed the water from them.

What are they doing? Why are they just standing there without acknowledging you? Isn't that kind of weird? But you're also just standing there... are you the weird one?

Your face flushes as you try to brush the anxious thoughts away. You take a deep breath and only focus on reality - what's in front of you. There's a dragon in front of you. A Coatl. They're tall, and lithe, and they have an iridescent mane and silvery plumage that glitter in a way that rivals the lake's charm.... Great, now you're blushing even more.

Their tongue darts out to taste the air and their gaze drifts across your body. Have they finally noticed you?

"Gotta go fast.... Gotta go fast.... Gotta go faster, faster, faster, faster, faster...."

You are snapped out of your thoughts by the melodic voice. Their lips aren't moving, but it's clearly coming from them. The Coatl takes a step towards you, and you mirror it, intrigued.

"Moving at the speed of sound.... Quickest hedgehog around...."

The melody and the movement continues, almost like a scripted dance. You can now feel the lake lapping against your claws. It feels as though your whole life has been culminating into this one enthralling moment.

"Got ourselves a situation.... Stuck in a new location...."

Their song picks up tempo, encouraging you to move quicker, and now they're walking backwards, taunting you to swim into the deep with them. You take your first full step into the lake. The deities themselves must have blessed you to have this chance encounter.

"Without any explanation...." The Coatl is smiling now, baring tiny pearl fangs. "No time for relaxation...."

Your heart skips a beat as you plunge your chest into the chilling water, daring to break the rhythm. You are so close, and you bite your lip in anticipation of saying something, but the Coatl is whispering their song now and you can't bring yourself to interrupt it. Your eyes follow the Coatl's every move, ensnared by their very being.

"Don't blink...." The Coatl's snout gently presses against yours. "Don't think...."

You can't see the cleaver being lifted from the water.

"Just go."

The lake runs red that night.
