Despite her frightening appearance, Bulla is a gentle-natured soul who only wants a hug. However, the disease that riddles her body makes such a feat impossible. Her gembond is in a state of constant infection, with pustules and open sores covering her entire body, with new wounds appearing as each gem forms. Touching her skin will cause burning and blisters. She wears bandages for two reasons - one is to make physical contact possible, but the other is just because they cause her pain.
It's speculated that the disease is the result of a parasite - the radioactive slime that lives on her body. The thing is cruel, smelly and shrinks away into her flesh whenever any come near.
Although Bulla is a kind dragon, it's difficult to keep her spirits up when the disease causes her so much emotional and physical pain. She goes through life with a sad smile and makes many excuses to mask her depression.
