XIULAN
— THE WARBRIDE —

Once a member of a proud and fearsome family, Xiulan was offered up to end the brutal war instigated at the behest of her warmonger husband, Melierax. Believing herself a sacrifice made for the good of the family, Xiu accepted her station to the best of her ability and abided by the life thrust upon her. Somewhere, somehow, in all their years together, the two came to enjoy a peaceful union, although she never came to love him; that was only and is ever for her children. After Melierax's eventual death, knowing she did not belong among her husband's kin and had no home to return to, she journeyed to the land of the Shadowbinder, worn and displaced, hoping to fade into obscurity.

Xiulan still carries herself with the unmistakable countenance of aristocracy—she possesses an air of refinement, moving in fluid lines and speaking in silvery tones, and she is quick to judge. With age and the reality of life, Xiu's arrogance has softened considerably, though years amongst Mirrors—who practiced a violent lifestyle wildly different to her own—have led to a more defensive and territorial Xiulan.
