Character

Laccaria never expected to one day rule the clan, but somehow, he ended up here. Known as a compassionate and thoughtful leader, he tries his hardest to steer the clan in the right direction, with the assistance of his council members, of course. However, he sometimes is driven to be preachy or radical, and has a tendency to speak about one topic for ages, and can be almost offensively blunt.

Despite being outspoken at times, he can also be very withdrawn and antisocial, often reserving his thoughts only for those he is close to. In fact, he spends a lot of time thinking to himself in solitude while tending to his garden, which has been one of his constant passions. He is known to overthink, and is frequently unsure of himself, shifting between strong conviction and melancholy.

Backstory

Laccaria joined the clan in its beginning stages as a traveling healer and botanist in search of a place to settle down and tend his own garden, having spent his early life at the auction house. He was born with a natural affinity for alchemy, and would use his cultivated herbs to brew potions and healing tinctures of all varieties, often called upon by the council to provide his special services to the clan. He also, unknown to him for many years, was born with latent supernatural powers, likely passed down to him by his parents, from whom he was orphaned.

He did not truly awaken these powers until he learned of the illness that afflicted the previous clan leader, Citrine. His attempts to heal the dragon using traditional methods had failed, so he seeked out assistance from the legendary and omniscient witch, Amanita, who revealed to him his hidden potential as a powerful mage, as well as an unconventional way to heal their leader.

He learned from the wise Amanita, as it turned out, that the problems that historically plagued the leaders of Clan Daybreak and it's predecessor, Clan Sunpine, and the very thing that was killing Citrine at the time, were due to what they thought held them together the most: their faith in the Lightweaver. In fact, ever since the fabled and tragic events involving Sugar many decades ago, their goddess had hidden disastrous curses in her blessings upon the land. In essence, she was merely misleading the clan into holding her faith, it being a lie that she held any regard for their livelihoods at all.

So, he performed a ritual with the greatest of witches he could muster, and stripped Citrine of his "divine curse" in order to save his life. As a token of his gratitude, the frail yet living clan leader transferred the crown to Laccaria.
