Biography
Creeke
________________________________________ |
Only three siblings survived in the parents' clutch of five. The remaining children trampled heedlessly over the bodies of their siblings. Creeke and his brother were raised by their father alone, having been abandoned by their mother in her grief. He did a pretty good job at raising them. They never went hungry, and always had a place to sleep that was warm and sheltered from the cold. Sometimes, he'd take them out exploring. Life was good. One day, as their father was out gathering supplies, the trio decided to go onto the frozen-over river. They were old enough to know not to do it, close to adults themselves. It was towards the end of autumn, and Creeke thought that the ice would be strong enough to support them. It certainly seemed that way at first. They set out, and, lo and behold, Creeke's sister fell into the icy waters. Creeke plunged his paw into the water to try to save her, but the water simply froze around it. Any water that touched him instantly turned into ice. He pounded on the surface of the lake, simply driving the freeze farther down. His sister drowned that day. Horrified by what he had done, Creeke fled, leaving behind his brother. He couldn't bear to see the look on his face. What about his father, who worked so hard to keep them alive? Creeke disobeyed him, and then accidentally helped drown his sister. The thoughts made him race onward, snapping at his heels. As fate would have it, a wicked storm was brewing in the sky. Creeke didn't care. He kept moving, and only until the blizzard reached a point at which he couldn't see five feet in front of himself did he realize that he wasn't ready to die. But it was too late then. Everything was snowed over. There was nowhere to wait it out. Then... then she appeared. A Pearlcatcher who waded through... water? She noticed Creeke, and called out to him. But he was too weak to do anything but stare at her, begging for his life with his eyes. Darkness consumed him as he passed out. When he awoke, she was tending a small fire in a warm cave. He gazed at her, barely moving an inch. "You almost died out there, you know." She said, still looking directly into the flames. "You need to take care of yourself." He couldn't help the shocked laugh that escaped his lips. He was surprised when she joined in, a smile creeping up her face. And right then and there, Creeke knew he had unwittingly found his Charge. |
