Personality Snippet:
Nightshade, as her name suggests, is a deadly dragon. Her tarot deck is enchanted, the images moving and smiling cruelly. Her cards show no positive outcomes, at least not for her victim. She loves to do readings for other dragons and then kill them. Due to the lawless wasteland she lives in, it is difficult to trace her crimes back to her. She is careful to cover her tracks. She loves to watch them die, their last breaths choking out of them, their eyes pleading for mercy. Some beg for their life, and some are silent, barely betraying the writhing agony they are in. Her favorite are those who try to be strong, only to fall apart in the end. Who offer themselves up in another’s stead but beg to be spared in the end. She is capable of the darkest of witchcraft, pulling the life from a dragon’s lungs, destroying their mind- if it is cruel, she is able and willing to do it. Her mind may be twisted, but she does not kill without reason. Her reasons may be convoluted and horrific, but she abides by the rules she sets for herself. Nightshade stood in her cave, gnarled branches of belladonna growing along the walls. The land outside her home was a wasteland, marred by craters and half melted permafrost. Once, this land had been beautiful, all white snow and blue ice, but that time had long since passed. A customer sat in front of her, his claws grazing the stack of tarot cards. Her smile was deeply wrong, though the dragon could not quite figure out why. Nightshade spread the cards, pulling out the secrets of his destiny. “Ten of swords, reversed.” She pointed to a card. “You have been in pain for a long time. That is about to end.” She pointed to the next card. “Eight of wands. Something is coming for you, very quickly. It is a good thing.” She did not add the last two words: for me. “The hanged man.” She paused for dramatic effect. “This represents sacrifice. Are you a sacrificial dragon?” He nodded. “I think I can be, if necessary.” The customer exited her cave and she stretched out her body, admiring the last card. Tarot cards were not meant to be taken literally- they were a representation. In this case, however, both the literal and the metaphorical were true. He would be a sacrificial lamb, and she was going to make sure he hanged. |
