The history of The Cold Ones, or simply “Nuqqatilli Ataaseq”, as they are known to the oldest clans of the Tundra, have been around for a long time. Perhaps even as long as The Second Age itself. Another source claims they arouse with the Shade in the Third Age. Some Sources go as far as to say they’re related to the uprising of the Original Beast clans! Regardless, their history is unknown, buried deep within the snow The Icewarden has coated his kingdom with. Likewise. The exact way they are brought into the world has been lost to time.
Regardless of when they first came into being, it is how this subspecies is formed that dragonfolk have remembered. These subspecies is found at scenes of horrors and violence. Perhaps the slaughtering of a nesting mother before the consumption her young children will host them? Or the massacre of an entire clan, their blood soaking into the snow below their cooling bodies will spring forth this subspecies. Even the The Fortress of Ends is suspect, with the bloodstains of prisoners past and current mixing into the ground to haunt the prison forever more. Regardless of reason or rhyme, They are creatures of death and snow, living golems of crimes committed against them. Their original coloration is lost when they died, replaced with the snow their souls and blood soaked into. Perhaps they are even being blessed by The Icewarden, who willed them to live on in his image after their horrific demise? Maybe the Plaguemother has her hands in this, eager to claim the Southern Icefields as her own with these deceased dragon as her warriors. Is it possible the Arcanist is to fault, using this subspecies as one of his little experiments? Maybe they are summoned by an separate entity for reasons unknown.
With their sight lost to them when they died, or upon maturation should they be the rare few born into the sub breed, this subspecies has learned to be careful with strangers. For the dragon that was not wary was the dragon that lost their loot, their food, and their shelter. This breed has also learned loyalty, for to have a clan they can trust, a clan to look out for them when they can no longer see for themselves, is truly the clan this dragon seeks among all others. Perhaps you and your clan can offer to take this one home with you?
