Having retired herself from active combat not long after the Clan Alys civil war broke out, Lyra runs the Alys University Boot Camp, whipping recruits into fighting shape. She excels at this. Even before retiring, before the war, Lyra was a skilled combat instructor, and now with it as her main focus she has refined her lessons into a perfect path to turn the average combat recruit into a brilliant soldier. These soldiers are not meant for rank and file, but instead all are a cut or three above the quality of your standard Trading Co. soldier. It evens the odds well against the sheer numbers the Trading Co’s wealth can bring in.
Lyra still spends time on her own training. While she her old goal of defeating a god has taken a backseat to combat instruction, she still strives to fight a deity and win someday. Unfortunately for Lyra’s goal, her training hours are cut short not only for combat instruction but spending time with Asmodeus (outside of sparring) and the Last-Minute Replacements. Lyra has taken a more active stance in the band, going to more events and being seen in public more. While Asmodeus’s mood shifts with the tide of war, Lyra’s is an unchanging rock. She looks for the simple things in life, like a sunny day, or a nice birdcall, and finds happiness in those. Unlike many others in Clan Alys, Lyra can truly claim to be happy despite the tragedy that is the civil war. If asked, Lyra can only say that she started seeking happiness to spite Melira, but eventually found it for herself, not for spite. Lyra’s happiness and her presence through the clan in the Last-Minute Replacements has led to her becoming a symbol of Alys University’s strength. With permission, Astoz has created several posters of her with inspirational messages for the University students. Although reluctant to admit it – Lyra is the scary boot camp instructor – many of the University students have begun to look up to Lyra as their personal hero. There’s even a rather small fan-club for her. Lyra would die of embarrassment if she ever found out, most likely. Asmodeus and Lyra are life mates. Lyra fondly remembers the days she spent pursuing Asmodeus, back when he was reluctant to admit attachment to anyone. Lyra likes to say they balance each other out, she keeps him from falling into despair while he keeps her grounded. And the fact that he’s always up for a good sparring match is just a bonus for Lyra.  |
